  1. Hello all,

Trying to make a backup of Conspiracy Theory using X Copy Xpress only to have it fail midstream. Then I tried DVD Decrypter only to have the same thing happen at 41 % into the copy, I tried this twice and it locks up at the same spot each time.

Are there some copy protection schemes that neither DVD Decrypter or DVD X Copy can't get past? This DVD is not the first one that I can't backup, Star Trek IV gave the same results!

I did follow the guide in the DVD Rip section to setup DVD Decrypter but that didn't help.

    What to do?

    Thanks to all who reply!

As of yet there is no commercial DVD disk that cannot be ripped. If you are getting errors at the same spot on the disk each time its probably due to a scratch or a dirty disk. Try cleaning it with a lint free cloth. You may also want to try ripping in file mode and turning the rety on errors up to 99. Then just let it churn away at it. With 99 shots at it, it may be able to read that problem spot.

  4. Try using your DVD burner to read the disc. sometimes this helps. I would recommend cleaning the disc first, then using your DVD burner to read the disc. also sometimes if the disc stops reading at 99% let it sit there for a minute It should finish. I have noticed sometimes using dvd copy xpress and dvdshrink it hangs at 99%. just let it hang there. if it stays at 99% for more than 5 minutes then there is a problem. or if you get an error there is a problem.

I tried backing up a movie I had the other day. I first tried my DVD drive and bamm! it got stuck midway. then I tried My DVD BURNER to read the disc and BAMM! it read it a little further, but then It gave me an error. I looked at the bottom of the disc and there was a 1 inch gouge scratch on the bottom. Some disc you just have to let go man!
