I want to make people aware that there are three different types of this
media. The first two types have the word "long...ten" in their media
id....while the third, which happens to be the highest quality, most
consistent of the three...does "not" have the word "long...ten" in the media
id. The media with the id of "long...ten" which is the lowest quality media i've ever used...as well as many others...is being sold at MANY sites under
VARIOUS different names. For instance...Extreme from Rima or allmediaoutlet...or HQ from meritline. Actually, the HQ is supposed to stand for "HIGH QUALITY"........![]()
These disks were also once sold at shop4tech...but due to the
increasingly negative feedback on those disks....from myself inlcuded..among others....shop4tech now carries the
"third" formula. Basically, the disks with the media id having "long..ten"
are very poor quality. There are constant issues with burning over 3.5
GB's...not 4...but 3.5 GB's.
There are also issues regarding compatibility with numerous burners..burning @4x. I was also able to get some of these"long..ten" disks to burn @4x...however, the results were absolutely
terrible. Most had some type of burn or playback issue, and there was a
clear reason why many burners won't even follow the write strategy to burnthese disks @4x as my Kprobe and Nero CD Speed tests will show. However, the newest of the forumula's...which at this time only shop4tech
carries....has much better results burning @4x. While I could never get the DRU-500A(X) to burn ANY of the first generation
formula long..ten disks @4x.....I was successful in getting the newer
generation (non-lon..ten id disks) to burn successfully with Record Now Max and Nero.
One thing to note is that I had to change the position of my IDE
cables to achieve the 4x speeds on the DRU-500A(X). The burner needs to be set to "master." To my amazement the DRU-510A will burn the newer formula disks @4x each and every single time with any burning software. I've tried DVD DEcrypter in .ISO mode...RecordNow Max.....various versions of Nero....and all of them burn the "NEWER" formula @4x each and every single time! This is definitely good news because It shows that shop4tech was being truthful when they said that they are continuously improving this media. I was disappointed early on when they were trying to spam this media to many people...and say it was great quality...when that simply wasn't true.
They also wanted me to post more positively on the media then
negatively...and I wasn't going to do that because although there were
positives...i mean the disks did burn and under 3.5 GB's...you'd be fine.
So if you wanted inexpensive media and could keep your project less then 3.5 GB's....in some cases less then 3 GB's...you'd be alright. To me that wasn't acceptible media.....but at least shop4tech was being honest when they said they were the company in this venture while other sites were just resellers. That is why the other companies have the poor quality "long..ten" media id disks...while shop4tech has the new, higher quality formula.
I am also going to post my Kprobe and Nero CD Speed results...however,
I still have more testing to do to assure that i've tested a considerable
amount and take the results which are most like the averages of all.
The newer formula has much better numbers and is higher in quality then the older formula. The "long..ten" older formula is also listed as "GRADE B" media...whereas i'd list it more like Grade "D" media. Many burners willNOT even burn the "long..ten" disks...and it was clear with my results as to why.
Burning @4x causes almost twice as many erorrs and playback issues, and even the ones that are successfully burned have Nero CD speed results which are error plagued. I was able to only burn the "long..ten" disks @4x with an ON THE FLY COPY with the DRU-510A. The DRU-510A would not even burn the long..ten disks as a data project @4x...and the ones I did on the fly had the worst numbers i've seen yet. Burning them @2x showed much better burns and less frequent issues.
I also want to mention that the new formula doesn't have the issues of the 4GB burn of death..so to speak. I was so serious about testing the capacity of these disks that when I first got them I burned 10 sraight copies of data where the total output size was 4.36 GB's. I was stunned to say the least because that was something that couldn't be done with the "long..ten" disks. If anyone wants to know how many others have had issues with long..ten disks...just do a simple forum search and find out.
Last but not least. The physical appearence of the newest formula Matrix
(non long..ten id) disks is clearly better then the long..ten disks. The
HQ's I received from meritline had two of them stuck together. Disturbed1 I believe had "three" stuck together. In addition, there are clearly visible dye issues on ALL of the long..ten disks and the newer formula is just manufacturerd better.
I will post my Kprobe and Nero CD Speed results soon. In the meantime..here are the differences between the media id's of the crappy long..ten media vs. the newer formula, higher quality (non-longt-ten media.)
Note: There may be a slight variation with a code or two from the various
online sites selling these "long..ten" disks...but the quality is the
same....unfortunately crappy. If you have any "long..ten" disks....then
keep your project under 3 GB's and burn @1x to minimize the issues as much as possible.
Media Id's between the long..tens and the new formula:
old/crappy "long..ten" media id would be identical or extremely similar to:

You sure use a lot of different discs. You buy in small quantities or something? I tend to stay away from anything new these days.
I for one, want you to know that your insight on these other discs is always appreciated.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

It's ironic for me that two words that so accurately describe my Johnson would have such a negative connotation.
-
The last sample they sent me was the Long...ten code and was great, perhaps these 3rd forumula disc had the code changed recently? If so that would mean my previous post about getting good result may have been 100% correct.
Strangely the guys at shop4tech were suppose to email us and let us know if the new batch came out ok so I could order some, they never did which I took to mean either the disc had not came in OR the batch was bad quality, perhaps they just forgot. -
It's ironic for me that two words that so accurately describe my Johnson would have such a negative connotation.
LMAO....
@LordSmurf....I used to purchase in small quantities much of the media...and still occasionally do..but I don't purchase online as much because of the major retailers sales as of late. However, if prices online continue to drop..then that may change....it all depends on the price and the media...whether I know it's worth it or not....trying as much media as possible allows me to test as much as possible as well as conclude what the best and worst media is at "this particular point in time."
@flaystus....the second formula may have been a little better then the first produced long..tens. But the most recent formula is absolutely better. Just look at the disk quality itself....someone doesn't need to know much about media to know what is good and what is bad by looking at bubbles and running dye.
I didn't like trying to be persuaded even for my own benefit to post something other then what was true the first time around...but shop4tech has sense written me saying they were truthful about having a new formula and asking if i'd be willing to try it out. I said i'd have to think about it...and ultimately said...what the hell...if it's going to help people save money..especially from the ton of online sites selling the first produced "BETA" disks so to speak...then it would be worth it.
Anyway....if you were supposed to get the "newer" formula and didn't....write steve@shop4tech.com and tell him...I already told him prior to testing any of these disks I think it would only be fair to give people replacements with the new formula for those who got shafted the first time around..as well as samples for the new formula for people who want inexpnesive media that actually works the way it's advertised. Anyway...they wrote me back and agreed. It will cost them to do this but that shows they are genuinely concerned. -
The second media had none of the visual defects of the first, and burned and played back fine. The disc we burned with them are still working great. I'm glad shop4tech seems to be getting this under control, lets hope they can keep the quality up. I hope to order some more to test, but the numbers needed to test completely I doubt they will just send me to try, so it will have to wait about a month until I have the money to do so. I figure if I get about 50 of these things and they turn out ok then its just a matter of if they can keep the quality up.

I recieved some of the "second" batch also. These are better than the first. Not great. Out of 50 discs, I had a very small number of "bad" ones.
You can read my posts and see the KProbe/Nero CD SPeed results under the HQ meritline media post here, and HQ media results at Meritline. These discs are the same discs.
I'm awaiting some of the "third" batch now.
I just hope shop4tech isn't pulling a bait and switch.
By sending us "golden samples" to spur on sales. Then fill those orders with the grade B product. -
Quite sometime ago I posted about this longten media. I bought about 5 singles of it to try. I was just about to post again when I see someone already has. I've burned all 5 and recieved VASTLY mixed results. They included freezeups, inability to play on one or more players. Hiccups at certain points toward the end of the 4.35Gig limit. Hiccuping like mad at the begining, and then feezing and stopping.and one disc which was completely.....flawless. No defects at all. Very unpredictable media. The disc that had the hiccups at the start, didn't have any,on my computers software player. Then two thirds of the way through the film, it froze, completely. Bizarre. Good or bad versions of this media, it's too much of a risk. Stick with Riteks. Even Princo beats the crap out of Longten in the quality department. When trying new or unknown media ALWAYS try singles first, or don't buy it. Longten...We certainly do have a problem.
-
I said a few weeks ago I was going to post some comparions between the first and second "long..ten" formulas vs. the 3rd formula, without the "long..ten" media id. It was obvious from the very beginning that any media I tested with the "long..ten" id was complete garbage.
About 90% of the people that have used ANY "long..ten" disks have said the same. I ran countless kprobe and nero cd speed tests and I didn't want to post them until I had run a considerable amount..so that I can assure the results.
Instead of uploading several different graphs, I will only upload the most common results of the differences between the three formula's.
It's pretty simple because formulas 1 and 2 are absolutely idential in terms of the results. They are both COMPLETE TRASH and I have unfortunately had to result in putting my backups onto much better media, as the playback issues of the ones that did burn sucessfully..were just unbearable.
Another negative of the 1st and 2nd formula's..are that they can NOT..repeat..can NOT under ANY circumstances..be burned @4x in the SONY DRU500A OR AX. And with the sickening results @2x in the AX....the last thing anyone would want to do is burn this crap @4x.
The DRU-510A DOES BURN "SOME" of the "long..ten" disks @4x..but most result in sense errors or a burn which can NOT be played back. Even @2x it's a crap shoot on whether or not they will even burn. If you are LUCKY enough to get ANY of the long..ten disks to burn...there is no question there WILL be playback issues.
If anyone has any other questions reagarding "long..ten" disks..do a search on this site...it's clear that even Princo looks like top Quality when compared to the long..tens.
It's very disturbing that these online sites are aware of how terrible these disks are. Unfortuantely, most of these online sites were able to purcahse these long..ten disks extremely "cheap"...and it's very obvious as to why. As I said above...some of the sites are Rima and allmediaoutlet selling these garbage disks under the name "EXTREME"...as in "EXTREME SHIT"...and meritline selling this crap under the name "HQ"..which is supposed to stand for HIGH QUALITY. Every time I see the "HQ" I gotta laugh....I mean damn...not only ROBBING the customer....but setting em up quite nicely with the name.....obviously they aren't going to sell them under the name "CQ" for CRAP QUALITY...but that's EXACTLY what the name should be.
You'd get better results burning a 1 to 1 copy from a DVD-9 TO A CDR then you would with these Crap..Tens! That's a great name for these disks BTW...."CRAP..TENS"...because the ONLY CHART THEY ARE A "TEN" ON...is the "CRAP CHART!"
With all this being said....after numerous burns and tests with the the 3rd formula disks...(the ones above which do NOT have "long..ten" in the MEDIA ID).....the results were damn good. I was very impressed and it's clear that they are finally worth purchasing. I had been very straightforward with the crap of the first two formula's....because that's what they were......but I was very shocked that the third formula was so much better.
The first thing I noticed was that while the first and second formula's would NOT burn @4x in the SONY DRU500A/AX....the third formula DID...AND DID SO VERY NICELY. The results post-burn showed exactly that. I still had coasters here and there...but nowhere NEAR the level of the first and second formula's. And the majority which did burn...played back perfectly! That's another thing that was disturbing to me...that I could only get a 60% success ratio with the 1st and 2nd formula....as far as the burn process completing went...but POST-BURN issues were apparently on at LEAST 20% of the disks..which basically means that the overall sucess ratio of the 1st and 2nd formula are ONLY approximately 40%. That's a disgraceful number....and what's more disgraceful is that even the nero cd speed and kprobe results for those 40% are off the charts.
I just want to mention that the purpose of this post was to inform people of what they are going to get should they decide to purchase these disks. Again, if you don't want to rely solely on my results...that is fine...do a search on this forum and research long..ten disks. If you read this post...search the forum..and STILL PURCHASE these garbage disks..then you deserve what you get.
I'm even more concerned now as my nero cd speed results on the 1st and 2nd formulas are coming up with sense errors towards the middle to end...while the results initially were terrible...I was still able to re-rip them....it doesn't look like i'll be able to this time..and I can now see first hand what people have complained about so many times regarding Princo's deteriorating over time.....the sad thing is that most of these disks were burned within the last month or so. -
Here are the graphs:
The first graph will be of one of my Ricoh burned disks...which were burned @4x. The Ricoh had almost 4.37 GB's burned to it in about 15 minutes @4x and the results are almost perfect. Most of my other High quality media have perfect results as well. This is just a "benchmark" of what excellent disks should look like post-burn.
The Second Graph will be the horrific results of the "long..ten" disks A.K.A HQ's that meritline is dumping off....as well as allmediaoutlet and Rima under the "EXTREME" name.
The third graph will be of the "3rd" formula. Although the "3rd" formula is not PERFECT....the very small jags are insignificant to affect playback in any way.
Ricoh @ 4x
Long..Ten 100% Crap @2x
Considerabley better 3rd formula burned @4x
P.S. The reason I chose to upload Nero CD SPEED graphs instead of Kprobe are because of two reasons. For one...in my experiences...Kprobe is not accurate....it has too many disparities...It's still a good tool...but from my personal experiences...as well as huge disparities from results i've read...I believe Nero CD Speed produces much more consistant...accurate results.
The second reason is that Krpobe only works with "LITE-ON" DVD ROMS/RECORDERS......Nero CD speed will work with any of them. So I chose to go with the Nero CD Speed results because they are more accurate in my opinion..and they are certianly more versatile in terms of what people can obtain them. -
defense,
Those do look pretty good. If these are truly the disks you will get at shop4tech.com for 85 cents each, then this is a very good buy. I'm looking forward to getting my samples from them.
Also, having tried out the previous "batch" already (when shop4tech sent them to me accidentally instead of the 3rd batch), it is disturbing to know that places like Meritline, Rima and Allmediaoutlet are selling those same crappy disks as disks that are actually useable. They should sell them as factory seconds or something, with all sorts of disclaimers, or not sell them at all. -
@Ebenton...that was exactly my point. The first two formula's weren't worth getting them FREE...and I mean that...believe it or not..i'm a victim of that deteriorating disks disorder...hell..I like that name..maybe we can start the term here and make a new definition.
DDD - Deteriorating Disk Disorder ...when disks like certain PRINCO and LONG..TEN deteriorate over a period of time.
And it's pretty messed up because I ran all kinds of utilities on these disks because I was skeptikal of them from the outset. So I put backups of movies which were well under 3.5 GB's and burned them @2x figuring that would be my best method with these disks.
So the graphs looked all similar..HOWEVER...at least Nero CD Speed FINISHED.....now it's about a month or so later and I CAN'T RIP THE DISKS!! Yea, there is something SERIOUSLY wrong there. I couldn't believe it myself.....but good thing I only used a SMALL NUMBER of those disks for backups...so it won't be a problem to re-do a small number of movies which I just stripped streams on to begin with. No reencoding needed fortunately. I took all precautions with the disks and still got beat.
As far as the disks you get..it's very simple..if they have the media ID I listed on the FIRST post of this thread...you should be fine...if they have "LONG..TEN' listed in the id ANYWHERE....you're gonna be in for a ride. -
The only thing I would be worried about now is that if I ordered some of the Matrix 4X DVD-R from shop4tech.com, would I get the NEW formula or the old crap?
The fact that they sent me the old formula with a cover letter stating that it was the new formula indicates to me that MAYBE there is someone or more than one in the chain of people between ordering the disk(s) and packaging for shipment that either is deliberately packing the old crap an mailing them out, or doesn't know that what they are packing is old crap. Since the disks don't have any printing or logos on top, it would be hard for some warehouse guy to know whether he was grabbing old stuff or new stuff. Especially if someone filled the bins in the warehouse so that the old crap goes out first, and then when that is all gone, you get the new stuff. -
Break one of those long tens open (coaster) and look closely at the dye. If the dye smears on your finger tips, you have the same problem that I had with some cheapo no name media that I bought at meriline a year and a half ago. The dye was silky, pastey, and would actually get on your hands. The discs would burn fine up to 3.5 gig, but crapped beyond that. I have never seen anything like it.
I used to break open DVDs when trying out a new brand or for the 1st time. I found out some really interesting things about dye and the plastic discs. Some DVDs shatter (brittle) when bent and others just bend (plyable) when bent. I prefer plyable for obvious reasons. If I remember correctly, Riteks are plyable. I have not done any endurance testing in a long time because I have pretty much just stuck to Ritek G03.
I would be interested in the dye in those Defense, that is if you don't mind breaking open a bad one. -
@cplevel42....we must think somewhat alike..because i've always done the same thing with DVDR coasters. I've noticed the higher quality disks just "bend" like you say....very FEW i've had coasters with..that's why they are 'HIGH QUALITY"......I never checked about the smearing affect or not..but the dye for the long..ten disks is total shit. It's not just the dye though..it's the quality of the disks from A-Z .....i'm just glad I only lost out on a handful of them.....I always wondered how the hell a disk could just become unplayable/unrippable over time....but COUNTLESS people have experienced it with Princo's..and some CMC disks..i've now seen it FIRST HAND with these disks..and when you look at the SICKENING first formula NERO CD SPEED chart..it shows that I was the fool for using ANY of the disks. 3GB'S....2GB's...1 GB....10 MB's...it doesn't matter..the disks are worthless....

For those of you who still have some Long Ten disc left, I hightly recommend B's Recorder GOLD5 or burnatonce. They will burn those discs without a hiccup.

If you don't know how to use a program properly, it does not mean that program sucks!!!
I just try to show my experience when dealing with those crappy Longtens 'cause I mistakenly bought some.
If my praising about a program that met my expectation and you think that is a Spam, please accept my apology[/quote] -
Would you mind explaining how changing burn programs changes the quality of the media? Cause that makes no sense.
-
I did not say the program will change the quality of the media.
What I mean is it helps you to burn the disc (Media code= Longten )successfully. By the end of the burning cycle, you'd have in your hands a new, shiny DVD-Video instead of a coaster!!!
I could not do that with RecordNow Max. After a long lead-in writing (about 3 minutes), it gave me a error message and churn out a coaster.
Nero 5.5 does a little bit better, but about 90% of the time, it burn about haft of the disc and a error message after that plus another coaster.
And it happened for 3 different computers with Pioneer 103 and 105.
Since I bought LG GSA 4040B ( because I think that is DVD burner's problems, stupidly me) and it comes with B's Recorder Gold5.
To my surprise, the app let me burn Longten well, not only in the LG, but the Pioneers as well. I just tried burnatone a few days ago and get a good result as well
That is the reason I told the whole world how good they are and got a SPAMMING hat on my head.
Another thing I need to mention that the COMPATIBILITY of the burnt Longten disc is less than that of the Ricoh or Ritek
My point is: If you for some reasons have some Longtens, that the way to go.At least, you get some of you money worth's. If not, buy some good, well-known discs. -
Hey, wait a minute! I use B's Recorder!
Now there's a ringing product endorsement. Indolikaa the Nuclear Antagonist recommends B's Recorder.
:P -
@ flaystus......I'll respond to you instead of Ying Yang. It's obvious if you look at their other 7-8 posts..they are ALL SPAMMING those burning programs. Sad that more and more of these trolls seem to surface.
Even more sad that some newbie who got stuck with those long..tens... will actually read the post and spend money for no reason on additional burning proggy's. -
@offense...I don't quite understand why you call my posts spamming????
That really insults my stupidity.
I just tried to point out a constructive solution, not to sell Longten or burning programs!
Plus, burnatonce is a free program as I know of so far. -

Hey dude, why don't you keep sticking to your very own topic instead of to Ying Yang with me.
When a problem arises, every intellegent man on Earth should try to find a solution, not to cry out loud on your mama's lap!
Read all your posts. You might as well fit into your very own definitions of Trolling and Spamming.
You absolutely right about my intellegence: I spent the last of it answering your recent stupid post !!!!
By the way, you should keep your daytime job as defense, not as offense.

I don't understand how changing a burning program will suddenly make the media work. It might actually finish burning but if the dye is messed up it'll still skip and freeze.
Defense don't be racist. If you are going to flame Li Wen Chang, just target it at him. You shouldn't make fun of the Ying and the Yang. Its like making fun of Jesus or Mohommad. -

Yo...not sure where you are getting that I made a racial slur. I think you two are confused. I was poking fun at the "nicname".... one thing i'm not is a racist..and I never make racial slurs to ANYBODY OF ANY ethnicity.
A racial slur is saying something deragatory to a person which has some meaning or is understood to be negative in some way. What I wrote doesn't have any meaning...if it does..that would be miraculous.
Oh..now i'm seeing that YING YANG THING...man..I never knew there was such a thing. I've always heard that as slang..and there's actually a pretty popular rap group called the Ying Yang Twins..and they damn sure aren't Oriental. I'm sure people of the Ying and Yang aren't too happy about that.
When people get into debates/arguements on here people often times use the person's nic and poke fun at it. That's all I was doing..to get the poster's attention to let them know it was clear they were spamming left and right.
If anyone took offense to something which has no meaning..then I apologize. -
Defense, have you tried burning those 3rd gen disks at a slower speed. I was just wondering if that would clear up the small problems you had shown. I'm in the market for some inkjet printable DVD's, and I only have a 1x burner. So if they burned better at 1x, they might be worth my consideration. I did just order some Ritek silver inkjet CD's and requested some of their printable DVD's with that order.
Have you ever tried Samsung media? That is another on my list to check. Thanks for the testing.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
