@ The Village Idiot... very good question and I actually mentioned this a while back regarding these disks in another post..but I should of mentioned it again. To answer your question....all THREE formula's have better results @1x and 2x, then they do @4x.
Some of the high quality disks i've tested @1x, have the same results as @4x...if you look at the Ricoh graph above..that was a Ricoh I burned @4x...and just about every piece of HIGH QUALITY media I have...burned @4x...have the same chart as the Ricoh's...which is basically perfect.
However, some of the more mediocre media..such as the Piodata/Lead Data's....Prime disks, and the Long..ten 1st and 2nd formula AS WELL as the third formula mentioned here...show better results burned @1x or eve 2x, then they do @4x. What is really disappointing and disturbing is the "LONG..TEN" media in the second graph shown above were only burned @2x ..while the MUCH BETTER 3rd formula, was burned twice as fast. But YES, if I were to burn the same project with the 3rd formula @1 or 2x, the graph would even reflect better results.
But just to clear one thing up. The third graph doesn't reflect "problems"...it just doesn't show a PERFECT result. That doesn't matter though..because the jags are so small....they are insignificant with respect to playback ability. The truth is that with the results of that third chart....most won't have any playback problems anyway...as standalones will rectify them.
The crazy thing is that even the HORRIFIC results from the long..ten disks from the chart above played with only a few studders in my standalone initially...that's amazing considering that it's clear how terrible the disks are. But unfortunately now..the chart is the same...but Nero CD Speed won't complete and I can't fully rip the disk. I figured something like that might occur..that's why I only kept a handful of them to begin with.
All my tests were done in various Sony burners...but I think you'll be perfectly fine with the 3rd gen disks @1x. You should get a small batch to test...but you shouldn't have any problems.

I bought a 100 pack from cdrdvdrmedia very 1st disk failed! I then ran disk 2 through a test and it went ok, but when i burned, it also failed! I was running 1.41 firmware in my a04. I now decided to backtrack to 1.31 firmware seems some think this was the best realease? I have since burned 30+ disks without any probs! at 2x only but i was thinking maybe some of the problems with these disks are actually firmware issues? as the disks i got look very high quality..... any ideas?

if you read MJW you'll realize that firmware, burning software, THE WEATHER OUTSIDE....have NOTHING to do with the problems of these disks. They are total crap.....inferior media....pretty simple to understand......at least it would be pretty simple for a parrot to understand..not sure about some others though.

Thank you defense! the weather here is fine and all the disks i have burned since downgrading are fine also.... Well, here is a good one. Just got my order from shop4tech. They sent me the wrong disks
! And they did not send any samples
!
The disks they sent are 90 min smooth silver top CD's. with RAD90min etched inside the hub. I ordered Ritek 80 min INKJET PRINTABLE cd's.
And the disks that I received, the first 2 were stuck together, and each shows a large blemish where they were stuck!
I sent the following through the contact form of their web page, as I am not going to call from the East coast without a toll free number.
I just received my order and you sent me the wrong disks! I ordered 80 minute Ritek INKJET PRINTABLE CD's. I received 90 min smooth silver top CD's of unknown manufacture. I need those Printable CD's ASAP! I also requested some sample Matrix DVD-R INKJET PRINTABLE, but there were none of those. Please send a RMA for the disks I have, plus a shipping label, as I am not going to pay for return shipping. Please also ship the correct disks OVER NIGHT SATURDAY DELIVERY to me today at no extra charge. This is not a good showing for my first order. Thank you, XXXXX.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
I ordered 50 leda/princo DVD-r and 50 DVD 2 disk cases, on the order form I requested samples of media that should burn at 2x on my burner and printables.
I got my order quickly and it looks correct, but I got no samples of anything
I burned 3 of the disks and they sem to work ok at 1x as I expected.
This was my second order with them, so though they did good on my order I am disapointed they did not send any samples of other media.
They blew an order for Monday! I was going to test the samples (if they had sent some) and if they worked well I was going to order both 2x disks and printables both.
I'll have a disk printer, either build one or buy one soon! -
They never even replied to yesturday's message. Geuss I'm going to get stuck with the wrong disks. Man this sucks. I won't be ordering from these suckers again!
Guess it is time to find a more reliable media supplier. Now I'm pissed. The last company to do this to me was Dazzle, and look at them now!Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
