Is there anyone keeping track of performance comparison's using something like CCE to do DVD-RIPs?

For example (assuming this hasn't been done already) that we should put together a benchmarking method and have users contribute to the list so that everyone can have an idea how their system compares with other peoples systems.

Anyway, the fastest method I have found is to use the

DVD2AVI to create the .D2V file, use it in an AVISYNTH
script with the MPEG2DEC Plugin and encode it using CCE
    version 2.50.

Using this method, I get a CCE Speed of about .478 on my
El Cheap-O Celeron 600MHz with 256MB of RAM.

I am thinking about upgrading to a P4-1800MHz with 256MB of RDRAM and would like to know what kind of performance gain I might get.

I guess nobody's interested in this eh?

For anyone who cares, I got my new computer together and the general specs are: 1.8GHz P4, 256MB of PC800 RDRAM and 80GB DMA100 IDE HDD. My old specs were 600MHz Celeron, 256MB of PC100 SDRAM and 20GB DMA33 IDE HDD.

Using the DVD2AVI->AVISYNTH(MPEG2DEC)->CCE 2.5 method I got a top speed of .478 in CCE 2.5 on my Celeron 600MHz. On my new Pentium 4 1.8GHz I get a pretty steady spead of 1.254 in CCE 2.5.

I'd say that's quite an improvement and actually more than I had expected. I'm pretty happy that I went with the P4 instead of the cheaper Athlon.

I'll probably just rip my entire collection of DVDs and sell them off to pay for the PC I just bought. I think that the quality of the SVCD rips is pretty darn good and with the multi-disc DVD Player I have, I don't even have to get off my ass to change the discs... up to SEVEN of them.

Anyway.. I'm still curious as to what other folks are getting for speed using CCE 2.50.

I noticed I wasn't using the latest AVISYNTH.DLL file.. I upgraded to it and now I'm getting over 1.5 for speed in CCE now.

4 pass for a 90 minute movie now takes less than 5 hours.

    Nice.
