Problems with capturing from digital camcorder via firewire!
Who knows a solution to this problem:
I have a Tecra-8000-Toshiba notebook with a PCMCIA-Firewire-card (IEEE1394), which is recognized without a problem by my Win98SE-System (no yellow signs).
I would like to get the digital audio- and vidoesignal via firewire from the digital camcorder (Sony Pc110e) into the notebook and capture it – either as .avi or even better as .mpg – either from tape or in realtime.
No capture-program gives me any signal in the computer, I tried Virtual dub, Movie DV, Uleads Video Studio and MGI Video Wave; they all want a capture driver, which doesnt seem to be installed or cant be found.
Of course Sonys Hotline is not responsible since the firewire-plug should recognize the Camcorder by plug-and-play; Toshiba is not responsible at all and the company of the PCMCIA-card says that it isnt their fault either since the card is recognized without problem by the system L.
So what is a capture-driver, where can I find one?
I appreciate your help,
Stefan

Microsoft has an update to Win98se for ieee-1394 support, but I don't think it will give you the driver that seems to be missing:

There is also a video capture update for DirectX 8, if you've installed DirectX 8.0 or 8.0a:

Make sure you are playing the DV cam before you start to capture. Some programs (e.g. AVI_IO) even need you to play the DV cam before you even open the program.

Here's another trick you could try: Go into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when the Windows screen comes up when you boot up your computer. Then go Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager. Then select your firewire card. Click on Delete. Then restart you computer and the computer should recognize your firewire card as new hardware and install the re-install the software for it. ONLY DO THIS PROCEDURE IN SAFE MODE. If you do it in regular, you'll have to pull the card and physically re-install it.

Here is how to do it:
Get MovideDV4.0 (or download MovieXone from the same site).
Then you can capture the DV from within the software. I use MovieDV and it works like a charm...
