  1. Hi,

I would like to backup one of my favourite movie (American Graffiti) with menu, but without extras. I would not like to compress, because the movie files+menus can fit on one DVDr disk. That's why I did not use the DVDShrink method.

    What I did:
    1. Copied the content of DVD to HD with Smartripper.
    2. According to the http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/backup/ifoedit.htm link I replaced the VTS_02_XX.VOB, VTS_03_XX.VOB and VTS_04_XX.VOB with an empty PAL.VOB file. A did not change any VTS_01_xx.VOB files because this contains the movie.

Now I could insert the whole movie on a single DVDR disk if I did not have a cca. 250 MB Dummy video in the VIDEO_TS.VOB.

How can I remove this dummy video from the VIDEO_TS.VOB and make the VIDEO_TS.IFO workable ?

Thank you for your help in advance.

I don't fully understand your question but if it's anything like the Universal DVD's that contain 200MB dummies in the VIDEO_TS file it should be easy

    MENU VOB ID REMOVAL GUIDE

identify the dummy entries VOB ID and then use menu extras to remove it and then do a GETVTS afterwards

my guides for stripping DVD's are out of date now as new faster methods have been suggested or I have changed my methods and not updated the guides as I now just use MenuEdit

check out 2COOL's excellent guides at DOOM9 as these contain most of the info you need to know

  4. Hi MackemX,

Thank you for your answer. unfortunately it did not really helped me.
This is the directory list of my DVD disk:
    VIDEO_TS.BUP 32,768
    VIDEO_TS.IFO 32,768
    VIDEO_TS.VOB 262,537,216
    VTS_01_0.BUP 96,256
    VTS_01_0.IFO 96,256
    VTS_01_0.VOB 19,142,656
    VTS_01_1.VOB 1,073,514,496
    VTS_01_2.VOB 1,073,379,328
    VTS_01_3.VOB 1,073,657,856
    VTS_01_4.VOB 1,073,643,520
    VTS_01_5.VOB 431,493,120
    VTS_02_0.BUP 63,488
    VTS_02_0.IFO 63,488
    VTS_02_0.VOB 409,600
    VTS_02_1.VOB 1,073,727,488
    VTS_02_2.VOB 1,073,651,712
    VTS_02_3.VOB 932,620,288
    VTS_03_0.BUP 18,432
    VTS_03_0.IFO 18,432
    VTS_03_0.VOB 10,240
    VTS_03_1.VOB 19,597,312
    VTS_04_0.BUP 18,432
    VTS_04_0.IFO 18,432
    VTS_04_0.VOB 10,240
    VTS_04_1.VOB 9,644,032

As you can see the VTS_01_xx.* files are fit on one DVDR disk and I have to replace the VTS_02_xx, VTS_03_xx, VTS_04_xx files with an empty VOB file. It is ok. I could do it.
My problem is the VIDEO_TS.VOB file. The size of this file over 250 MB. I did not find any method in 2COOL's guide how to replace the VIDEO_TS.VOB file with an empty one or if I delete it with the MenuEdit I can not synchronize with the VIDEO_TS.ifo file.

I hope you can understand now my problem. Please help me if you can!

you do not replace the menu with a blank, the guides were for future projects and it was my 1st post that was for your menu problem and if I'm right in thinking this should work

just open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and click MENU EXTRAS

then select a temp folder to save the new files to and have strip audio and strip vob's ticked and proceed to strip but make sure you keep everything selected

IIRC, I'm sure Ifoedit will ignore the dummy video and create a new VOB minus the dummy video

is this a Universal release? as this is what they seem to do with some of their releases

    try that for now

  6. Hi MackemX,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your help again.

I managed to remove this 250 MB dummy video from VIDEO_TS.VOB. And yes, this is an Universal release.

The disk is workable in my PC, but my desktop player (Sony DVP-S725D) keep giving me a C13 error message after the Copyright Warning screen.

I try to write down what I did, maybe, you can point me the mistake I made.

    1. According to your previous post, using the IfoEdit I could decrease the size of the VIDEO_TS.VOB in a different folder and then I overwrote the original files with these three new files (VIDEO_TS.vob, VIDEO_TS.ifo, VIDE_TS.BUP). After I run the IfoEdit again and click on the "Get VTS sectors" and let it run on every Ifos. Than I saved every ifos again.

    2. I replaced the following files with the PAL.VOB file:
    VTS_02_1.VOB
    VTS_02_2.VOB
    VTS_02_3.VOB
    VTS_03_1.VOB
    VTS_04_1.VOB

    And then using this link:
http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/backup/ifoedit.htm I could remove the extras. Of course, I run Ifoedit and I did everything according to that description.

    3. The size of the completed folder was a little bit bigger than one DVDR, so I had to remove the spanish and the french audio from the movie. I used the DVDShrink v2.3, as usually and generated a VIDEO_TS folder.

    4. Then I burned the disk. The ready made disk worked fine in the PC but in the desktop player it stoped after the Copyright Warning message screen disappear. The error code is C13. I do not really know the meaning of this error code but I suppose thsi some kind of software problem which I made.

If you have any idea, please, help me.

Thanks a lot for your helps.

you do not have to replace every VOB, just the 1st of each titleset

so yours would only involve these
    VTS_02_1.VOB
    VTS_03_1.VOB
    VTS_04_1.VOB

    you would just remove
    VTS_02_2.VOB
    VTS_02_3.VOB

    as they are not needed

I also suggest you use 2COOL guides to replace the VOB's, but first you must confirm what type of VOB titleset it is and use the appropiate guide

some Sony DVD players can be very fussy (I got rid of mine because of this) and all the error is reporting is that something is missing

that's why its best to replace the blank.vob's but also keep all the references in the IFO valid by using the appropriate guide

once you understand the basics you will see how easy it can be to strip a DVD properly
