First off, I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong forum. While trying to use the merge/cut tool in tmpenc with svcd format mpegs it freezes solid when I try to move the slider in the preview window. The details list that ddhelp.exe has caused the all too familiar "invalid page fault" in nvdd32.dll. ddhelp.exe is part of directx so I upgraded to directx9, but that didn't help. nvdd32.dll is part of the nvidia drivers for my vid card, so I'm wondering if switching to a different kind of vid card might help my problem, any thoughts? Thanks

I have no idea about your specific problem, but I'd try the latest version of the driver first. If that doesn' work or if your already the latest I'd try downgrading a few versions and see if that helps.

I've had similar troubles though I'm unsure of the specific culprit. It did kinda seem like it started happening when I updated drivers, but problems with TMPGEnc are so random for me that I never know what causes them. You may also want to try changing TMPGEnc versions if they're still available. Some of the earlier ones seemed more stable, or at least they did to me. I would think this a safer option than backdating AGP drivers.

Thanks for the respnses guys, I think I may have found a clue. I thought as a temporary work around I thought I'd try opening the video in WMP and noting the times of the commercials, then just manually inputting the times in tmpenc but the same thing happens, when I move the scroll bar in WMP it freezes solid. Could a problem with my captured videos be causing this? If not I'm thinking it has to do with the vid card drivers being inable to display the video when scrolled through.

I can honestly say I haven't given it 10 minutes, maybe 2. Perhaps my 1.4ghtz Athlon has finally met it's match. I'll give it a try, thanks rally.

If you have a VIA Apollo chipset and a NVidia GF2MX400, then the AGP bus may be the cause. There is some kind of incompatibility between those two when the AGP is set to 4x. If you try all other solutions (drivers, directX etc) and they don't work, try to set the AGP to 2x from the bios. It worked for me!

I gave both tmpgenc and WMP about 15mins, both were listed as "not responding" when I control-alt-deleted them. Argiris-I can't wait to try your solution when I get home, I think you've nailed it since you correctly identified my vid card (learned my lesson-list ALL details in first post
) Thank you so much!
