  1. Can someone tell me how to join three avi files that have been encoded with TMPGenc so that I can make one file ready for burning on to DVD. I need the simplest way please.

    Thanks

  2. All three files need to be the same specs. You can then join using virtualdub. There is a guide on the left hand bar which will help you.
    If it's wet, drink it

  3. is virtual dub easier to use than tmpgenc, i looked at that one but it seemed complicated and all i want to do is join them?

So they are already encoded to mpg files?

If so, in TmpGenc, select file->mpeg tools and then select the 'merge and cut' tab. Evertyhing should be obvious from there on.

  5. Yes they are all encoded. I had a quick look at the tmpgenc merge and cut tab, sorry if I am being thick, what do I do after I have loaded the files?

    Thanks

Select an output file/folder and click run looks promising.

If you are making a DVD just put the files into the authoring
program separately. They will play sequentially. Sometimes merging MPEG2 causes problems

  8. I have used tmpgenc to merge the files but that makes the audio out of sync.

  9. If I try to put them into the authoring programme separately the total amount is too large even though I used the bitrate calculator the way someone else instructed me to. I added up the total film and put that in the calculator.

What can I do now other than reencoding the last part to make it smaller. It takes such a long time.

    OK
I assume your total filesize is just slightly too large.

OK put them in the authoring program anyway, and make your
DvD as a VIDEO_TS file set instead of an image.

Then use DVDShrink to reduce it slightly

Fast, works good, and lasts a long time.

... and try to figure out why it's too big for next time.

Thats probably because your authoring program is converting the audio to PCM, which is uncompressed and takes up loads of disk space. What authoring program are you using?
If possible, set up your authoring program to keep the mp2 audio in the mpgs you have. Just one note of warning though, some NTSC players will not hanlde mp2 audio, thats why many authoring proggys default to PCM, which all players can handle.

Ok, EASY way to do it. Take your encoded mpegs and AUTHOR them with tmpge dvd author, dont worry about the size right now. Just keep adding them until all are ready to go then hit output. Now the size will most likely be larger than you want. Next go to dvd shrink (free)and shrink them down to the size you want, obviously under 4.3 gb.
    There ya go.
Like someone else said, joining mpegs sometimes causes sync probs. You can author one mpeg at a time, then take them all and reauthor them but instead of adding the mpegs, just add the vobs.
One last thing, if you have DVD2ONE 1.3 (not free) you can use that also as it will join multiple dvd files.
Just stick with the first suggestion if you're confused right now.

  14. I am going to use recordnow max as the authoring programme but I will try to get tmpgenc dvd author instead and then I can follow your instructions.

  15. I have got tmpgenc dvd author now. When I try to put my files into it I get "can't load smfpgdec.dll".

What does that mean and what can I do now.

    Thanks

  16. Ignore the last post, it is working now.

  17. Could you tell me have to use dvd shrink so that I can finish this off please.

    Thanks

  18. I have got a smaller file now but cannot seem to burn it with recordnow max. Does anyone know of another solution. I have tried burnatonce but that doesn't recognise DVD+R which is what my writer uses.

    Thanks
