Here's my problem.
I've taken a large amount of MPEG files, at VCD quality, to be placed on a DVD. In the Ulead create disk section, i set it up for DVD output, at CIF quality, which gives me 6 hours per disk (*according to the program). I then try and output it, and the final output screen reads that the required disk space will be 3.0 Gigs. Fine, DVD's have 4.7. No problem.
But then the program tells me (after a long time generating the files), that there is insufficient space on the disk!
So, I generated a disc image file-- and lo and behold it comes out to 5+ Gigs!
So, is this a problem with the program, where its generating incorrect file sizes, or have I missed some vital step? I'm still trying to figure out how a file that the program states, in the peniulitimate step before burning, are only 3.0 gigs, could baloon out to five plus.
Thanks!

I did... same problem. Here's the settings that supposedly only took up 3 gigs.
MPEG files
24 Bits, 352 x 240, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 1500 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
I converted a smaller file to a disk image, and it went from 265megs listed to 271 when converted, but that wouldn't be enough to account for the great increase in size in the 3Gig file.
I'm confused, since oneof the reasons I wanted to use this was to put many of my smaller files onto DVD compilations, but until I can figure thise out, it probably won't happen.
Thanks! -
I use VS 6 and have never encountered this problem but you might use TMPGEnc to merge the files together then import to VS.

Well, I tried to burn it with leaving the "do not convert compliant mpeg files" unchecked, and it worked. Maybe something about MPEG files produces a bigger final size unless the program is allowed to play around with them?
I am going to check the bit rate calculator, though-- thanks! -
I think the problem is you let VS7 pick the bitrate.
you just told it variable without an average rate
