  1. I have a 4x Rebadged Pioneer 105 DVD recorder, and Nero 5.5. Even though Nero says it's writing at 4x it takes approx. 30 minutes to burn a full disc when either 4x or 2x is selected. The mode selected on the drive is UDMA 2. I have it plugged into a Promise ATA 133 controller. I am using 4 x capable discs.

Any ideas people? I wanna get discs writing at full speed.

  2. Same problem with my Sony DRU 500A ... 4x selected and "teorically" used but takes an half hour to do a full job.

  3. I use a free program called X-setup that let's you tweak many settings on the computer. A few days ago I went to the page where you can download new plug ins that people have built and one of them was to force Nero to tell you what speed it is really burning at. The description said "no more thinking your burning at 4x but it takes 30 minutes!". I don't have this problem so I didn't get the plug in. I don't know if it helps you correct the burn speed or not but it's free so give it a look.

  5. It could be that the combination of the medium and the drive only allow Nero to burn at 2X. There are a lot of variables, quality of media being one as well.
