Some of you may recognize me as a guy who's been having alot of encoding problems on several threads in this forum.
It started dawning on me that NO video encoding programs were working on my new (re-furbed) flat panel iMac G4 800mhz, ones that seem to work for everyone else more or less.
So I tried to run the Apple Hardware disc.
When the screen came up it was totally illegible and squished into 1/4 or 1/5 of the screen.I was not able to run it.
Do you think I have a hardware problem that could be causing all my encoding problems?
I'll try running some programs on my iBook and see if I can get more normal results but i guess my new computer is going back for repairs...
Would love to hear people's thoughts as to what they think the (my?) problem is.

So not even the Apple disk would run correctly?? Have you had problems with any other applications, other than the video apps??

There are other diagnostic tests you can perform though, and other processor intensive tasks as well.

My brother has an iMac FP, similar problems but not with audio/video apps it was everything having problems.
It was only when he was in OSX
sooo... after about 500$ of applestore tests, and our local mac store tests we find....... The seller put the wrong type of memory in. I think the imacs take PC133 and his had pc100 or the other way around or something like that.
iMac;s have two slots one is WAY in there, called apple slot. this was done by apple and is ususally the correct memory.
The one below the plate one the bottom is called the "user" slot and is the one you or anyone can put memory in.
If it aint the right one, all sorts of problems can happen - even things like you see with hardware cd's not working. My brother's wouldnt even load OSX cd! wouldnt boot to anything on cd at all!
so...... pull that memory out, look at the type it is, and verify its right.
Im not saying its that, but its worth a look....... -
