  1. Hi all,

I have a XVid AVI file.

    Aspect: 608x340
    fps: 23.967
    audio: ac3 (5.1)

Is this an NTSC file (I am basing this on the 23.967 fps)?

I am trying to convert this to a DVD.

Followed all the guides for extracting the audio to a seperate file and converting the video to MPEG2 with TMPGEnc, just did a conversion with the defaults(ish).

Tried to use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create the DVD and it complains that the video is not a valid aspect ratio or frame rate for a DVD.

Okay so I need to create the MPEG2 with a different aspect and frame rate.

What ratio should I use, I don't think I should go up to 740x480 because I would be creating something from nothing and effect quality, is this true?

Or should I keep the 608x340 ratio and just add borders to it (is this what letter boxing is?) to make its vertical size 480? Just a bit lost at this point.

If I change the frame rate this will effect the synching of the audio, is this true?

So when I do the conversion in TMPGEnc does it also convert the audio, if it does is it only after this should I extract the ac3 data?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mike

We don't know what your audio sampling rate is.

If your video will open in VirtualDub...
You can easily play around with the resize filter and see how it looks
eithier by adding borders or stretching. Your aspect ratio is 16:9
If you just swell it up to 720 x 480 and set it to 16:9 your player
will probably letterbox it for you
