    besides DVD, are DIVX files a good source to convert to VCD OR SVCD?

    divx can be if its been encoded at a high enough bitrate

    i dont thins there's a limit to the quality, there are a lot of threads about this, do a search... get g-spot codec appliance to figure the birate of ur files....

    I have encoded a divx to DVD and it looks great. It all depends on how well it was made.
