  1. Hi,
I'm trying to capture some TV shows with an ATI AIW 7500 card, but the SVCD preset in MMC sucks. Does anyone know of a guide somewhere that would help me get better quality? The only guides I've seen talk about VCD 2.0 encoding. Also, should I be capturing straight to SVCD compliant video, or another form and then converting it to SVCD compliant video with TMPGEnc or another program? Finally, what's the best program to edit out commercials? Thanks,
    Matt

Only my guides cover DVD MPEG-2. However, you can easily change the resolution to 480x480, bit-rate to 2520 VBR, and audio to 44.1hz. The rest of it is identical.

Make a new preset as the ATI MPEG CAPTURE guides show, then select VBR 2520, 480x480 and 44.1hz audio instead of what is shown.

  5. The VBR page has a slider that goes in MB/s...Am I going to 2.52 MB/s or what? Thanks.

Yep as close to 2.52 MB/s as you can. (it is very hard to get the slider spot on.)

  7. Thanks for all your help. One more quick question: what is a good program to use to cut the commercials out and merge the remaining video? Thanks.

  8. The best is womble mpeg vcr. (expensive at $120 though.)

You can use the cut and merge tool in TMPGEnc like a lot of other people do, but it is usually a bit inaccurate.

  9. Lordsmurf,
I followed your guide and just changed what you told me to change, and I'm getting compliance errors when burning with Nero. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Did you cut it with TMPGEnc? If so, the TMPGEnc data in the header is sending off the Nero warnings, but don't worry about it. It's just Nero being anal.
