DMR-E80H disc won't play on other DVD players...HELP!

First, I would like to mention the instructions for this DVD Burner are horrible. It has taken me three weeks to get to this point, so I'll tell you where I'm at. I copied some VHS footage to the Hard Drive. I edited the footage into a playlist. I put in a blank DVD R, and played from my hard drive while hitting "dubbing". The red record light came on, and everything seemed ok. When it was done, I "finalized" it, put the DMR-E80H on "DVD" and it played fine. On the original blue screen however, it says "DVD Ram". Is there a setting I need to adjust, I thought if I put in a DVD R it would know. I gave it to my brother, and he put it in his three year old Phillips DVD player and it will not play. His DVD player accepts DVD R, +, -, and mpeg. I got the DVD back, and opened it in my computer, and noticed there is only a "TS_Video" file and no "TS_Audio". I know from burning DVD's the old fasioned way, you need both. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to format the blank DVD's? I am using Sony 120 4.7 DVD R's. If I have to edit it on my computer like others have suggested on this board to add the TS_audio, then what good is this thing?

I go through the exact same steps, get the DVD-RAM screen (no clue why they do that), and my DVD's play fine on my other DVD players (all Sony).

Sounds like its the Phillips player if you ask me.

I've done some tests with RITEK03 DVD-Rs burned on my E80H. Generally the discs play on all other players (we've tested across a number of models throughout the extended family), BUT my sister does report problems with two of her machines (brands unknown). There are many variables here. You need to test with different media, and different players to zero in on the problem. You should also use something like dvdinfopro with a DVD-ROM to verify brand and format. It's a shame that there's so much uncertainty here for home burners. Makes one wonder what the commercial DVD-R burners do that we don't, besides use 9Gb media. I've never had a commercial disc fail to play.

Yes I did read the link. Very thoughtful investigation and I agree that it's not always about media. But there are enough postings where people describe problems with media that I thought I would share my experiences.

You are right. It might be media. But I would sugest testing first. Have one DVD+or-RW that you are sure that it works. Try to copy on PC DVD that was burned on DVD Recorder. If that doesn't work, try re-authoring. This way you (ThreeTMR) can eliminate cause of your problem. I wonder what are your results of that test.

It is becoming well known that the Panasonic dvd recorders author disks that do not play well in some players. This has nothing to do with the media but the authoring process that is used by the Panasonic dvd recorder. Yes media can be a problem in some cases but the problems most people are experiencing are coming from the recorders.

I've even spoke to a tech from Panasonic who also agrees that there are some compatiblility issues with the disks created by their dvd standalone recorders.

The only solution is to install a dvd ram drive in your computer and capture using the Panasonic recorders then author and burn it with your computer.

I must admit that this is a step that I would rather not deal with, but sometimes shit happens.

I have a e30. Try changing the recording method from 'auto' to 'fixed'.

Also, you could run your resulting files through dvd2one & itll output a new set of files for you write to disk.

It is probably authoring issue. So I am not sure if DVD2ONE re-authors DVD or not, but by ripping files with DVD Decrypter and burning them with Nero didn't helped. Only re-authoring in my case. And I used SP or XP mode (is that what you are refering in 'auto' to 'fixed' ?)

I own an E30 as well and it also has the same problem. From what I've been told all the Panasonic recorders author the same way.

Well this would be a waste of a DVD-R but if you record to your Panny standalone using a DVD-R you could then RIP that DVD-R using DVD Decrypter in FILE MODE (SELECT ALL FILES) and then MAYBE fix the problem by using ImgTool (classic version) to create an ISO IMAGE file ... then BURN that to a DVD-R with your computer burner.

This would add the missing AUDIO_TS folder but otherwise it most likely will not be that different.
