  1. i'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this, because i'm surprised to not see any posts about it...

toast 6 will not let me burn in an average approx. 700mb mpeg1 file, encoded to vcd standards with ffmpegx to as a vcd on a normal 700mb cdr. it comes up with this error message when i click burn:

"There's not enough free space on this disc: 726724 sectors (1.4 GB) are needed, 359849 sectors (702.8 MB) are available."
umm... 1.4GB?? i think not! and i tried it with 500mb and 400mb files as well, and gives the same error (saying i need 1045mb, etc.).

then i drag the EXACT same file into toast 5.2.1, and it burns it just fine with no complaints.

this is really annoying and rendering toast 6 practically useless for me. what's going on here?

probably because Toast 6 sucks for VCDs.

Do this. when yo uare authoring the MPEG file create a bin/cue out of it. Or just do that out of the one you have right now, and drag the cue file onto toast in copy mode.

well its because toast is doing a LOT of extra work, that you dont really need for your particular project.
Like ZeroSix said, just make the .bin/.cue elsewhere and then burn it.

Toast 6 is nice, but there are some things that need to be worked on, one you are noticing.

  4. thanks guys. it sort of makes sense now. so i guess that explains why it says in the manual that you can put up to an hour of video on a vcd, and 20-30 minutes on an svcd (when in reality it should be 80 minutes, and 40 minutes, respectively).

i was kind of hoping it *was* a bug though, because if they're gonna keep it this way, then it's actually easier for me to use 5.2.. well for vcd's at least. and then it'll suck when panther comes out.

  5. what is everyone's method from going mpeg1->bin/cue? ffmpegX, with the bin/cue authoring option checked, just produces mpeg files for me. i'm working with an XviD video file with AC3 audio. i'm running it through the vcd quick preset with audio passthrough turned on to preserve the AC3 audio.
i'm getting a 'file error' but it encodes as mpeg, m1v and mp2 fine anyway. how can i get a bin/cue file out of any of this?

thanks in advance, and i apologize if this question has been asked, but i found no solution in the logs that worked for me.

Your reply is slightly off topic, but if you are able to get working MPEG files from your Xvid movies, then it should be no problem packing them into a BIN file.

Open ff, fo to the TOOLS tab, Click on the first BROWSE button, check the box at the left labeled AUTHOR AS VCD and the box that says OPEN IN TERMINAL, then click the button that says AUTHOR.

If this doest work, PM me with your terminal output and we'll figure something out.
