I have a strange problem which hopefully someone can help me with.

I have a number of MPG2 (NTSC 480x480x29.97) files which I wish to convert to DiVX so I can watch them on my Archos Multimedia player.

I use Gordian Knot to convert my files and I get excellent results, however, a lot of my SVCD MPG2 files I made into SVCDs using Nero, and then deleted the MPG2 file off my system. If I extract the MPG2 file off the SVCD disc (using ISOBuster) and convert this with Gordian Knot, I get sync problems, but if I convert the original MPG2 file, I don't.

I did some tests, and it happens with all of my SVCD discs, and I have tried both Gordian Knot, and VirtualDub with DiVX 5 and Xvid codecs, and get the same results. Audio wise, I use exactly the same method and encode to MP3 at 224k.

Anyone got any thoughts as to why the SVCD MPG2 file would give me these sync problems, and a possible solution ?

I can fix the sync problem manually in VirtualDub using the interleave option, but it appears to be trial and error (and time consuming) to get the correct interleave setting to put it back in sync. I also tried the option in VDub to adjust the frame rate to make the audio and video the same length, but I only had marginal success with this.
