Hi,
I am interested in buying a divx player. A lot of people on this site promote the LiteOn's, but on other sites the Kiss scores very high. Unfortunately I have not really seen any good comparisons between the machines.
Does anybody have some objective information about this, or maybe a site where these are compared? also, why is the LiteOn not DivX certified yet?
Maybe some people can also comment on the new Kiss players that you can find on their site with HDD recording, tv-tuner and ethernet. Sounds very nice to me!
thnx

I see nothing special about it. I rather buy something else instead of divx player. It's really nothing useful, but I guess you're not like me. Divx player is slow player if it read ODD and faster on EVEN. For mpg, it usually should run in full speed, but divx player was created to play avi and other types.

well,
it's first of all a normal dvd/mp3/(s)vcd etc. player. With added functionality divx, xvid etc. So it's an addition to the other formats, which can be useful if you don't want to convert downloaded movies to another (worse) format. I personally don't mind if additional formats are supported..
Besides that, the ethernet connection makes it easily possible to watch and listen to all types of media-files that are actually on the computer (and conveniently stored in small, high quality divx files). Without the hastle of having to connect sound/tv card to the tv (lesser quality also), and having to go to the computer to start your movie or mp3.
thirdly, the new models with HDD recording make it possible to store movies/tv series or whatever locally on the HDD in divx-format. Here you have your digital VCR, making it possible to store for relatively long time in relative good quality (117 films I read). And through the ethernet connection you can even upload the stuff back to the computer and burn it if you want. -
I have the liteon lvd 2001 it is a very good player I bought one cause my Philips dvd player was broken. It has a excellent price and on the liteon site are many firmware updates. It support many features (progressive scanning dvd audio divx 3.11 xvid. The dvd quality is good, maybe better than my Philips. It has a 16x48x liteon dvd player you can even replace it with a liteon dvdrom for the pc. The kiss player with network support is very expensive. But the kiss player is the first standalone divx player. If you have a network etc I recommend a kiss. If you don't want to spend a lot of money I recommend a lite on cause the discs support is the same or maybe better. The liteon is a bit noisy though.

I bought the LiteOn because I have used many of their products and so far only 1 has died on me, also they are very good on price versus performance. They keep updating everything they sell and seem very interested in seeing this new player succeed. The Kiss is twice as expensive and the normal one doesn't do some things the Liteon can like use the memory cards. Also I got to go to a local geek store and buy this one in person and have good return and warranty available from them also. It is very possible that with some creative firmware it might be able to use all kinds of things in that PCMCIA slot and support more formats also.
So maybe someday a network card could plug into it and there you are, Don't know if it will happen but it uses linux or something to run most of it and a lot of creative people have bought this unit. -
I suggest you to have a look at the ESS based DivX players like the Yamada 6000/6100 or Xoro HSD400. They are cheaper than the Sigma Players and can play DivX3.11 without problems.
