Hi all!
Just F.Y.I:
I just got an Oxford External Bay (very nice, highly recommend!) from: http://www.meritline.com/fiie13oxdeal.html , if you get one, try to get the Firewire. I've tried USB 2.0 (different brand, different situation... your results will vary of course) and the pipeline doesn't seem as big, and with firewire, you don't need drivers! (usually) I'm running the Firewire through my SB Audigy card with no problems at all.
I stuffed my "old" Creative Labs PC-DVD 6x EIDE drive in there, plugged it in and BAM! 13-15min rips! Then with my blank DVD-R in my Sony DRU-500A 2.0f, I do a hands-off rip/burn in under 30min using DVD X Copy Xpress.
I had to get the External box because I have all my 'standard' EIDE channels filled with 2 hard drives, and a TDK 52x and my Sony DVD burner.
Happy Ripping!

I do the firewire enclosure gig as well. Nice to hear that there are others out there doing the same

I do the same. Bought a HP 200i when there where $500. stuck it in a CompuCable/ NewMotion Tech Firewire and USB 1.1 interface. hook it up between a P4 1.7 GHz PC and a ibook OS X (without DVD buring capabilty). I buy my peripherals to be cross-platform.

I've been doing fw for some time. I will caution some dvd rws have problems being seen by the OS. I have a pioneer 105 that has to be turned on and off several times before the system sees it. Also another issue is using multiple fw devices. I have 4 different fw devices and every time I start my system I don't always have all turned on or connected which means the OS may assign a different drive letter to the device which is different from the last time the system was powered up, which causes problems for some software like dvdxcopy xpress. Because dxcx is configured when first installed for a specific drive letter for your dvdrw it looses track if the drive is assigned a new letter later.
Hey imtigger2, got a question for you. I noticed you posted a message on removing the dvdxcopy disclaimer from back ups. I was wondering if you knew how to burn a dvdxcopy compliation? Example if I copy the compliation from the dvdxcopy before it is deleted by dxc can that compliation be burned to a dvd? If so how? I've made several attempts and all have failed.
Thanks -
Easy stuff...
First I usually rename the dvdxcopy folder to the name of the movie. You don't have to do that, but I keep images on my hard drive for a little while and it prevents them from being overwritten by dxc again...
- download the demo version of Nero. I haven't opened it and it seems like the 30 day clock hasn't started on it as of yet... you just need it to install the .dll files you need for the following program:
- install ImgTool. With this VERY easy and quick program, you just click on the video_ts folder, or root folder for your movie, click a button, and imgtool reorganizes your folders in the correct order on your DVD and it burns it very quickly. You have to have Nero installed tho.
Hope that helps.
