  1. Whats up experts? Here's what I need a little help with. I'm using 592x320 as the video size in tmpgenc which is what the movie was ripped at. When I encode the movie it only plays on the top half of my tv. I've tried using center and full screen keep aspect ratio same results also I'm setting the source aspect ratio to 16:9 and also the output video aspect ratio to 16:9 cause I have a widescreen tv. This is the first time I've come across a movie that only plays on the top half of the screen! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The movie plays wonderful on the pc.

Have you tried using a template to encode your video to?

Try doing short sample in 4:3 ratio, and report what happens.

Try using 'Clip Frame' under the 'Advanced' Tab and clip everything outside of the video that you don't want, like any black bars etc. and don't select the Mask options.

Make sure 'Arrange Setting' is set to 'Full Screen(keep aspect ratio)' and of course the mask color is jet black.

Make sure also that the 'Video Source Type' and 'Field Order' are correct. Maybe try 1:1(VGA) for 'Source Aspect Ratio'.

  10. Try using the standard VCD resolution, with 1:1 vga as the source and full screen (keep aspect ratio) as the video arrange method.

This is your problem: VCD has to be 352*240/288 (NTSC/PAL). For SVCD it's 480*480/576

He said he used the VCD PAL template. I hope he did not change the resolution.

Looks like you may have found his problem: Operator Error.
    Hello.

  15. lol I'm sure its operator error. Yes I did change the resolution to 592x320 which is what the movie was ripped at I've done this before without any problems. but I will admit this is the first time I've tried doing a movie in widescreen. all the others I've done are 4:3. The reason I use the resolution the movie is ripped at is so I can use higher bitrates if I use the standars vcd resolution I can only use a bitrate at about 1240 before the my dvd player becomes unhappy. but if I change the resolutions I can go upto 2500 on my bitrates. So you think I should stay to the standard resolutions?

    Yes

  17. ok what about using 480x480 or 720x480 I shouldn't have any problems with those should I?

  18. Those aren't VCD resolutions either. If you want it to be fully compatible stick to the VCD spec, otherwise you are risking causing yourself problems.

You can jump to SVCD and use 480x480 (NTSC) or 480x576 (PAL), while using bitrates of up to 2520. Still within the standard there.

Or maybe 352x480 for NTSC(x576, PAL) for CVD
