Hello,
A friend of mine suggested using this program to try and convert my AVI file to an MPEG-2 file for DG Fastchannel. They have these specifications:
Encoding: MPEG-2
Preferred: 18Mb/s
Scanning: 480 60i (upper field first)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 0.9
Aspect Ratio: 4x3
Chroma: 4:2:2 (MP@ML) (720x512)
GOP: All Allowed, IBBP preferred
Frames per second: 29.97 (NTSC)
Stream Type: Program Stream
In TMPGEnc Plus, I selected MPEG-2 Video, 720x512, 1:1 (VGA), 29.97 fps, CBR, 18000 Bitrate, 4:2:2 Profile & Main Level (422P@ML), NTSC, Interlace, 4:2:2, 8bits, Highest quality. I thought I had all the settings right, but I get an error saying:
"The sampling rate is not permitted with selected MPEG-2 level.
> Sampling rate = width*height*framerate."
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Has anyone else tried using this program for Fastchannel specs?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Have a look at the link in the upper left hand corner of this page, where it say's,

Not sure what a DG Fastchannel is but.... assuming you want to put it to DVD, and seeing as you have been a member for 4 years with no specs or location filled out....
18000 Bitrate
720x512
The sampling rate is not permitted with selected MPEG-2 level
Total:
Total bitrate including video, audio and subs can be max 10.08 Mbps (10080 kbps) -
Not sure what a DG Fastchannel
So why the heck would they want 18Mb/s AND standard NTSC 4:3? Makes no sense. -
Read the article, "Configuring TMPGEnc for high-quality, DVD-compliant MPEG-2": http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html
I can tell you right now, your bitrate setting was insanely high. -
Short answer -
18 Mbps is a little less than double the maximum bit rate allowed for DVD.
The resolution you used (720x512) will only work for PAL video, but you selected an NTSC frame rate (29.97 fps).
Is 4:2:2 OK for DVD? I don't know, so I'm asking if anyone else knows. I don't ever mess with this setting. -
Hello all. Thanks for the reply. No, its not going to DVD, its going to broadcast. Fastchannel is a digital media service. You upload a spot to them and they distribute it for you. I'm really confused about the 720x512 aspect ratio as well, but this is what they ask for. I will do some more research and see what I come up with.

Oh, and I used 18000 because thats what they had in the settings for another program I was trying to use on Mac - a program called Episode which creates MPEG2 as well.

I doubt the authors of TMPGEnc Plus had Fastchannel's requirements in mind when they designed the software. And I don't think many people offering advice in this forum have even heard of Fastchannel until now. You might want to consider contacting Fastchannel directly for advice on selecting the best MPEG-2 encoder for their specs.

The funny thing is, a friend of mine uses this program for Fastchannel, so that's why I tried using it. I already contacted Fastchannel several times and they keep on pushing the other program, Episode. I was just at my last resort, so I thought I'd come in here and ask. Guess I'm out of luck.

TMPEGnc Plus is very flexible. You just need to change to a higher profile level. I've encoded up to 80,000 kbps and 1920x1080 with it.
