I would suggest using DVD Shrink. Alot of people including myself seem to like it. It dose a very good job.

There are several guides on this subject in both the AUTHOR section and the DVD RIP section of this site.

You can find my guide on the subject here:

If I understand you correctly you want to convert a DVD into either a VCD or SVCD and use the original DVD menus.

As far as I know this is not possbile.

    I could be wrong though

    P.S.
What you are asking can of course be done if you are backing up a DVD to a DVD recordable but I don't think it is possbile with a VCD/SVCD back-up.

    *** EDIT ***
I'm bad ... I just went to that LINK that ADAM posted and it claims that you CAN do it. Oh well what can I say hehehe I've never heard of this before.

Yes it can be done. Obviously VCDs and SVCDs don't support all the same functions as a DVD, but they still support menu's and with some clever authoring you can simulate most of what a DVD can do. My guide explains the more common techniques.

You can use the next and prev track buttons like directional buttons, moving your button highlight over each button then using the enter button to select that option. If you intend to watch your SVCDs or VCDs on a pc, or if you plan to watch your VCDs on a CDI player than you can use actual hotspot buttons like a DVD uses.
