Guys (and Gals) needing some help here,
I have a split avi that I have joined together, then converted to DVD, this is aprox 6Gb.
I have tried several softwares, read loads of conversion guides, but cant seem to find the solution to my problem, does anyone know how i can shrink it down further i.e. to fit on a dvdr

the avis were joined and exported to dvd with Ulead movie factory, dvd shrink (2.3) wont shrink it, TMPGnc wouldnt encode the avis to mpegs without loosing sound, and im at my wits end.

    any ideas?

  2. What do you mean tmpgenc would not do it without losing sound. Do you mean sync problems ?.

My answer would be to convert in tmpgenc using a lower bitrate but before you can do that we need to work out what you mean by losing sound.

    cheers for the reply,
Unfortunatly I mean no sound at all, for some reason Tmpgenc looses all the sound.

  4. The Avi file may have ac3 sound or VBR audio. Load it into avicodec and let us know what it says about the audio.

Do you know if Tmpgenc created a seperate audio file and maybe you are just not loading the audio when you watch the video.

  8. I'm not sure why TMPG has a problem with the audio but try saving the audio as a wav file and using that for the audio in TMPG. You can do this with Virtual Dub. There is a guide in this web site for saving an avi audio to wav.

I dont know why it wouldnt convert the audio, However I have now "fixed" it, but using VirtualDub to split out the uncompressed auido into a wav, then combine the audio and avi video using TMPGEnc into a MPEG, then using DVD workshop to create a DVD,

thank you all for your responses!
