Philips 711 won't play XVCD encoded @ anything higher than 1

Can anyone help out on this? The 711 is supposedly compatible with XVCD so why can't it read anything that's encoded at a higher rate than 1250? Even at 1300 the picture and sound freeze every couple of seconds... I've looked around for an answer but nothing. Thanks for the help.

Try recording the encoded xvcd to slower speed, if you're recording 4X speed, make it 2x. Try this, if this won't work let's figure out someting else.

it can play xvcd's and xsvcd's but not @ anything higher than standard (x in this case is for resolution...)
with the right firmware (6.2 ??) u can play SVCD's.
with lower resolutions, 352x576, 352x288 (both PAL), if you want.

Sando, what your saying the 711 can burn XVCD only at standard rates, but that makes it a VCD, no?
If it only handles standard rates I could only encode at 1150 and not at 1250 like I do. Weird, 'cause everywhere you read they say the 711 is XVCD compatible... surely higher then 1250!
However, I'll try the 2x burn for the XVCD, I usually burn 4X. This might work...

Ok, I tried burning at 1x to be on the sure side and still no go... I used CBR bitrate of 1800... any other suggestions? Who's got a 711 which actually is able to play XVCD?

I've tried and failed several different xvcd versions. If you go over the standard vcd bitrate or try to use mpeg2, you get nothing for your effort.

Almost the same "problem" with xsvcd. You can go under, but don't go much over 2600kbs video+sound or the 711 will studder. (I use CBR 2500 video & 128 sound with no problems)

However, the 711 doesn't mind if you lower the resolution to 352 x 480 or even 352 x 240. (I haven't played much with this.) Using 1500kbs (and of course it can be VBR mpeg2)it seems you could cram an hour of good quality video on one disk.

So the 711 is XSVCD compatible, not XVCD compatable.

Yep, that's what it seems... the site should update this info on the 'DVD players compatibility list'. I've tried just about everything (15 coasters in a week!) with no luck...
