My Mate has invested some of his hard earned on a phillips dvd+r burner (DVDRW416K) in the hope of "backing up" some dvds and also backing up his cds to cd-r. Hes using nero 5.5 and no matter what he tries to 2 back up 2 he gets an error messgae telling him that the cd or dvd that hes trying to copy is copy protected and cannot continue. i tried the same cd that he tried to copy in my Liteon cd burner and it burned no problem. i used the same version of nero as him.
I suspect that there is some sort of copy protection built in to the burner itself i.e. when it scans the cd for copy protection it just throws up the error. Anyway the upshot is that the only thing that he can use his burner for is to backup files he has created on his pc. what a waste of £200 notes eh!!

Unless anyone knows a workaround??
thanks

I'm confused about your post. You are talking about DVD's and CD's in the same subject. Nero is not going to allow your mate to back-up a copy protected DVD movie. You're going to have to use either DVD Shrink first and then NERO to burn, or a combo of tools such as DVD Decrypter and DVD2One and then NERO to burn. Or go the short route and buy DVDX Copy. Please clarify what you are wanting to do as your post is too vague.
