According to some of my sources, Wal-Mart Canada will be selling the DP-300 for $50CAD as a customer appreciation sale during their anniversary sale starting October 17th. Time to stock up on Christmas presents...

    $50CAD

Damn good price, but I noticed the one's in stock at my neighborhood Walmart are not the hackable variety, that used to be prevalent. Maybe the small Daytek DVD player that they sell at Futureshop, for $10 dollars more might be a better deal. More features, and a region hack exists.

No, it turned out to be the DP-311 for $48CAD...but at that price it's still a good deal. Anyone got any info on the Venturer Progressive scan cheapo units at Wal-Mart? Any of them hackable?

Stay clear of the Norcent DP-311. I have picked up two of them at Wal-Mart today for some family members and they are horrible when it come to playback. Even with a Pioneer A06 and Ritek G04s has still not been able to complete a full DVD without freezing and becoming unwatchable. These "Slim" versions must have a different drive unit than the DP-300 series.

I picked up a Norcent DP-311 at walmart the other day and have had no problem with it so far. I had originally bought the Audiologic for $89 and had problems with it freezing so I took it back and got this one.
