  1. I recently installed a Canopus ADVC-50 digital video converter to my system, the converter is connected to one of the integrated firewire ports in an ASUS A7N8X deluxe motherboard. The problem I am having is that when I connect my JVC GR-DVL510 digital video camera to the other firewire port, the computer does not recognizes the JVC camera, just the Canopus converter (There are no error messages or anything, the computer acts as if nothing happened when I connect the camera).

I am using Pinnacle Studio 7 for capture, and the Canopus is permanently connected internally to one of the Firewire headers in the motherboard, so I have not tested to see if by disconnecting the Canopus the computer recognizes the JVC camera.

Is a computer unable to handle two firewire devices simultaneously? Or is there something else that could be affecting the detection of the JVC camera through the firewire ports in my motherboard?

Before this I was using the JVC camera without any problems in another system using the firewire card that came with the camera, but I thought that all firewire ports should work for any firewire device.

  2. Well, given the underwhelming response to my post , I decided to open my computer and disconnect the Canopus converter; after that I reconnected the JVC camera and it was immediately recognized by windows and Studio 7. Given the fact that the IEEE 1394 (aka Firewire) standard supports up to 63 devices simultaneously connected to the same computer, I would had expected that two meager DV devices should not cause so much trouble. But then again if someone has had a similar experience I would appreciate the input.
