Does any part of your system recognize it?

  4. Did you try reinstalling Nero. I had some issues with Nero 5.something. It recognized my drive, and I could still burn cdrom stuff, but the dvd options were grey'd out. Nero 6 works perfectly tho. You should upgrade if you havn't. Older versions of Nero have problems with new DVD writers.

About windows media, try the classic, bare-bones version, if you have XP, it should be in the same directory as your version. Also, try the divx player if U got it. I personally cannot stand windows media player.
