    and i am using TMPGENC DVD Author program to make menus and what not and export to DVD and it is giving me a error that says the GOP is too long and i was wondering do i have to capture all this video again or is there a program i can use to change the GOP or what? this is the first time i have expirenced this and i am using the same settings as i always do.

  2. You don't have to recapture, but you will have to re-encode. Try Tmpgenc for this.

    Then check your capture software settings and try and make sure they are DVD compliant for the future.

    Womble has a fixit button that claims to fix Gop length problems.
    I have never had a illegal gop so I dunno if it works.
    I don't see how it could avoid re-encoding most of it though.

    I’ve had TDA report this problem before (GOP size) but always ignored it and had no problems with playback on dozens of standalones.

    Material was mostly mpeg1/2 vcd/cvd 2pass vbr – done using TMPGEncm, imported to make DVD's in TDA.

    Not advocating that you should break the standards – just saying from my experience it didn’t give me any problems.

    Now when I encode I make sure I force the ‘max number of frames in gop’ to be correct.
