Here's my situation. I need to clear off the harddrive soon, and this means burning some of these movies to DVD-R. Some are in .GI format, some are in .ISO format... I'm sure once I figure out what software can burn those (PrimaDVD?), I'll be all set. But some are already extracted into their file structures, meaning the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories.

Is it a good idea to simply burn those directories to a blank DVD-R? I have never burned a DVD-R before, so I don't know if I would need to specify a particular format, or use the default, or indeed what the default might be. Basically, my question is: What software should I use, and what steps would I need to take, in order to turn those two directories into a DVD-R that a typical DVD player could use? Thanks.

I have (access to) a Pioneer A05, and some Fuji DVD-R discs.

  2. Welcome to the site!

Personally, I use RecordNow to burn the VIDEO_TS folders. Nero is also a good choice.

Take a look over in the tools section. There are many doo programs that will allow you to do what you are wanting.

    Good Luck!
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

Thanks for the help! I'll peruse the tools area and see what I can dig up.

But basically all I'm really wanting to know is whether or not I could load up RecordNow or Nero, point them to the VIDEO_TS (and AUDIO_TS) directories, say "burn these to a disc", and then pop the result into a DVD player and expect it to work, or is there some important step or consideration I'd be overlooking? I'm a little coaster-anxious because I had to buy my media locally rather than saving about 75% of the cost by buying them online somewhere.

  4. I'm using Nero 6.0.0.11 or something like that. its the latest version. basically start up Nero Burning ROM. select DVD from the drop down menu. click on DVD Video in the left column. go to the label tab I believe and name your movie. then click new. drag your VIDEO_TS folder from the Xplorer window and drop it on top of the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero has already created (it'll be red). this will transfer all your files into the correct folder. Nero makes an AUDIO_TS folder as well but you can ignore it unless you have something in your AUDIO_TS folder, which is unlikely. then just click burn and that should do it. I've never had a copy burned like that fail to play on any DVD player I've tried so far, even some very old ones.

  5. For burning .iso file type I use dvd decryptor as it's free. Burning video_ts folder? My favorite is copy2dvd, real easy and has a free trial. Both in the tools section.
