  1. im having problems when burning, i have a norcent cdburner, and i have burned at 52x before and the movies have come out great, but lately some of the movies i burn, start skipping and freezing at the last 20 mins of each cd-r, i heard that it might've been an speed issue that i should burn at 4x or 2x which are the true burning speed, i did, and a few of the movies played great, but after i did another one today, i had the same problem.
im using memorex 700mgb-80mins cd-r, and i have an apex1500 dvd player, im using nero to burn. does anyone know what might be happening? because before i burn them , they play fine on the pc, even after i convert them from avi to vcd they play fine, the problem lies after i burn them. help please anyone?

I've heard that memorex cd's have problems. Try a different brand.

  3. Yeah trying different media brand would be a good idea.

Also, you might try Record Now DX, which has a verify function that goes backs and reads the data after the burn. This always makes me feel more confident that everything is OK. (You have to mount the cue file on a virtual CD player, Daemon tools, Alcohol etc. to burn a (S)VCD but it does work and it does verify. The only burning program that I have found that will verify a (S)VCD burn.

Finally, the higher the burn speed, the more that everything has to be just perfect, the burner, the media, the data flow. 52X is the outter end of burning.

I know it's hard to go back, but I've heard that 16X is a pretty safe range and it's not that slow. (I can only burn in 16 or 24 X so it seems fine to me.)

  4. well ive read so far that Veritas record now dx is the best one yet, better than Stomp even though they are both under Sonic, but this program, does it test the media or the movie file, because i always convert from avi to vcd, and i test the movie after the encode and it plays fine, is after i burn i get the problem, im going to start getting better media cd-r's, so far im 100% sure that memorex SUX!, ive read that TDK are really good. Also how can i mount a vcd with daemon tools, so far ive used daemon but only after i have used winrar to unrar the files and get the bin and the cue, but how could i get those if what i have is a vcd mpeg file?

  5. Have you tried the cd's on a different player or your pc ?, does this problem only occur on your apex ?. This may be the source of the problem and not your media or burning speed.

  7. I author my (S)VCD with VCDEasy. It gives me a cue and bin file. Then I mount the cue on my Alcohol virtual drive ( Daemon should work the same way) and then I do disc to disc copy in Record Now, which then verifies the burned data after the burn, if you select the verify option.

The main thing is, if you mount your bin/cue and it plays fine on a virtual drive then the problem is not in the VCD authoring end (where one can have problems) but in the burning, either the burner speed or the media.
