I started a VCD2.0 project, added a MPEG1 file, enabled PBC and selected 'equidistant chapters' and burned the CD just fine.

But when I play the VCD in my DVD player, there is no PBC, no menu, nothing. It just starts to play.

I know my player supports PBC because when I create a still picture slideshow using Ulead PictureShow software, it indeed shows the menu page(s) and responds to the remote control buttons.

Out of curiosity, I popped in the VCD in the computer and sure enough, the SEGMENT folder is blank. Shouldnt PBC-enabled VCD have the play (segment) items in this folder?

Actually, even when I am authoring the VCD in VCDEasy and go to the ISO9660 tab, the SEGMENT folder is empty even after I add the chapter entry-points.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

PBC doesn't automatically give you a menu. You have to create a menu yourself and then set up the PBC for it to work. If you set up the chapters you'll be able to move to the chapters even without a menu.

So I can move to the chapters using the numeric buttons on my remote?

Also, how do double-digit numbers work on my remote? i.e. if I want to jump to chapter 10, would I press 1 and then 0 quickly? Why wont this get interpreted as 2 separate keypresses?

How can I create a menu containing the chapters/entrypoints as selections? I looked at the guide on vcdeasy.org but couldnt figure it out. Is there a step-by-step guide somewhere?

    Thanks

If you set the PBC to assign the numbers to the entrypoints, yes.

Depends on your player. I think my old player had an "enter" button on the remote so it would be 1-0-ENTER. I think my current player has an extra button to increment the 10s. I think some just use a timeout, you have to hit both numbers within a certain amount of time.

I haven't looked at that guide, but really all you need to do is create a VCD MPEG or a VCD still image with the picture you want as a menu and set up the Interactivity tab so that the numbers go where you want.
