  1. I'd like to have a dedicated mini DV tape player for my computer. I think it would be easier than using my camcorder since I wouldn't have to switch current/old tapes in/out all the time. I'd like to keep the camcorder always ready for shooting new video. All the player would need to do is play tapes and output to firewire. Is there such a thing (for significantly less $ than a new camcorder) ?

  2. The cheapest one i've seen cost over a thousand dollars. You'd be better off buying a really cheap camcorder as a dedicated player.

Sony used to make one that actually fit in the DRIVE BAY of your computer!

    It was called the DVR-1000

unfortuntaley this is also the model name (or #) of the SONY D2
that cost thousand in the 90's

So I can't accutately tell If they still make it

It looked so cool a DV player in a 5.1/2 form factor

As far as I know, no one makes one of these types of machines now. Too bad would be nice.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

well this was the coolest thing..went in the same space as a CD ROM or DVD-ROM, took its power from the COMPUTER and had ILINK and Video IN and OUT on back and front..mini-plug phones in front..audio out rear also..
Was in the sony print catalog as late as 2002
is everyone sure they stopped making the DVR-1000 beast?
