  1. Hey all,

I gotta question for you guys with a Micro MV cam out there...

Can I attach my VCR on to it so the analog signal will be converted to digital MPEG2? And how can I import on the PC?

    Greetz,

    Rick

it will be converted to DV -- not mpeg2

you need a firewire cable and card

  3. Thanx 4 the reply...

How about with the Sony DCR-IP5 cam? It says on the site that it records directly to MPEG2.

No I think SLRICK was right. I'm sure Micro MV uses MPEG 2 NOT DV.

you are right -- i didnt read to carefull - i am sorry , yes MICROMV uses mpeg2 , At 12Mb/s, MICROMV has a bit rate of less than half that of miniDV.

it still uses firewire for transfer (sony calls it ilink)

  6. Thanx guys.

So should I buy a cam which uses MICRO MV or one that uses DV?

I would like to put all my stuff on to DVD...

Isn't it easier to edit stuff in AVI rather than footage in MPEG2?.- Unless the MicroMV Transfers to the computer in AVI and not MPEG2. Would there be much of an image difference?.

I would stick with MiniDV for the following reasons.

    1. Mini DV Camcorders alot cheaper than Micro MV.
    2. DV tapes alot cheaper than Micro MV tapes.
    3. Easier to edit DV-AVI.
    4. May find it hard to get software to work (capture, edit) with Micro MV

    However!:
    1. Its very handy to have your footage in MPEG 2 if you know your destination is DVD.
    2. The cam's are tiny!
