I've found a site that sells 9.4 gig dvd-r's. It also says on there that the model of burner that I'm getting is supprted. So if I use DVD X Copy and it wants to split the movie to 2 discs, then I should be able to burn to both sides of that disc. Right?

So it would be a waste to spend the money on them then? If the sole purpose for me buying them would be for movies...

Not a waste of money at all if you want to have the highest quality DVD backup possible, or want to put a lot of video on one disc.
I like the flippers, but they are costly ATM. -
Let me take a wild guess at why you call them flippers...
If I have a movie that I've copied to one of those discs, and the movie is on one side and the special features on the other, I would have to flip the disc over to get the special features, right?I don't know karate, but I do know ka-razy! And I'm not afraid to use it! -
Or... if you made a direct copy...
You get the idea. It's like gluing two normal blanks together back to back.
Not "useless" but certainly not useful enough to justify their expense.
