After all this madness regarding the Optorite drive and Apex AD-1200 I've been going through, I figured I was going to find out 1 way or another which was the culprit regarding compatibility. I decided I was going to start out with the Optorite. I took it back to the store I bought it from, and upgraded to a brand that I had never heard of before. It's a DVD burner called an "LG". Have any of you ever heard of this brand before? The guy at the store assured me that this brand is a top of the line model, right up there with Sony in quality. I was quite skeptical, but since this was the ONLY other brand that they carried other than Optorite, I figured I'd give it a shot. The LG burner was $253.00. So I returned the Optorite and paid the difference for the LG. I got home, installed the LG, popped a disk into my DVD-ROM drive, and a blank Fuji-film into my LG drive. I used Nero to attempt the burn. It was an SVCD video of Beyonce Knowles (SO fine, she is). I burned the copy, and with shaking hands (out of nervousness) took it out of the LG drive when it was finished burning, and popped it into the drive of my Apex stand alone. I knew that if I saw the little yellow light come on, on the dash of the Apex, that means it worked. 1 second, 2 seconds, 3,4,...........BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The little yellow light came on, which meant that there ws a bonefide DVD in the Apex's DRIVE! I was so happy that I screamed at the top og my lungs! I played the copy, and it worked FLAWLESSLY. I included chapters when I authored the original DVD copy, and I checked, and all the chapter links worked, then I just let the video play from beginning to end, and it was PERFECT!
If you have an Optorite DVD burner, and an Apex AD-1200 DVD standalone, and you're having problems with getting playback from any DVD-R or +R discs, IT'S NOT THE PLAYER, IT'S THE BURNER!!!!!!!!!. Take that Optorite back, and exchange it for a higher quality burner.
I want to thank all of those people that tried to help me figure this whole thing out. For those of you that thought it was my Apex, you were WRONG. I had faith in the Apex from the very beginning. That's why I started off with trying a new burner. The Apex has played ANY and EVERYTHING that I've put into it thus far. Until that ordeal with the Optorite, the Apex was superior in playback capability. Lo and behold, it turns out that it was the Optorite that was the problem, NOT the Apex.

SPECIAL NOTE TO "DEFENSE". You are a moron. You get on this message board, and do nothing but put people down and argue. That is why I never wasted my time replying to your messages. You had no intentions on helping me, or anyone else with their problems. You are nothing more than an internet heckler that puts people down just because they don't know as much as you do. I believe in what comes around, goes around, and someday, you'll pay for how inconsiderate you are to others...........

LMAO...there really is something wrong with you...not just stupidity. Nobody put you down....go post my first threads..I responded to your problem five times...you know the one you posted on SEVERAL DIFFERENT FORUMS. You ask for help and had the nerve to come back and say the advice you were getting was wrong. Your standalone played -R media because the manual said it did. Very good brainy...you knew the answer to your question all along..that's why you challenged people's advice.

And I can even post where YOU SAID IT WASN'T YOUR BURNER because you burned -RW media and that media played in your standalone. You don't know WTF you are talking about.....and try not to post this question 5 times...I see you've already done it twice. You used a FUJI disk and that worked...the other media you had no IDEA WHO THE MANUFACTURER WAS....and you think the burner solved your problem. You also said that SVCD's worked from the outset on your player...now you are saying that your SVCD of Beyonce worked...well that isn't saying anything because you already said SVCD's played.

I honestly think you still have your optowrite burner...and didn't return anything. You admitted it was your standalone and now you just wanna feel like takin' a shot at me because I got on you for posting the same question countless times as well as told you from the beginning it was your standalone player...but you didn't like the fact that I was right...so you decided to come back and post more B.S. I'm sure that's what it is.

Glad I helped you with your problem.

LMAOOOO....thank you for the laughs.....really....I'll keep the rest to myself...because this is very hard to believe.

lmao...no Mackem...that's not it...but I'll admit...if the 'x' has anything to do with being related.....you're much smarter then they are. I'm surprised I wasted my time responding....they post a question and think they know the answer.....I should of told them to replace their burner...get the Sony...that wouldn't work...replace that one because it must be defective....get a Pioneer A06....then replace that one too...because the Optowrite burner is mysteriously burning the disks in such a way that all other burners will make the media compatibile on their standalone player. Next time I might just do that.

  7. Wouldn't it have been cheaper and easier to replace the $50 apex with another standalone than to replace a $150+ burner and go through the hassle of opening and closing your computer?

I doubt they replaced their burner. I am pretty sure they said that just to spite me. But I could care less. They were just pissed that I got on them for posting the same question numerous times. They were also challenging..not only me..but other people who THEY were asking for HELP. I even posted where THEY said it WASN'T their BURNER. They just didn't want to openly admit it was their standalone the entire time and I was right. But they did admit it on another thread.

LMAO...I really feel sorry for you...because your as braindead as a person could be...with the ability to still actually type. The facts are there Brainy...you not only rejecting the solutions people offered, you also said it was NOT your burner...and I quoted you on that too.

So which one was it? If you are ACTUALLY sticking to the story that you exchanged your burner, AND that solved the issue of playing -R and +R media on your Apex...then you're about to just fall off that life support. Because that would mean that you admitted that your standalone played -RW AND +RW disks which your optowrite burned, but it didn't play -R disks...however, changing your burner, MIRACULOUSLY allowed your standalone player to recognize -R media. LMAO....too much.

  11. Well, what do we have here?!

I have made over 100 DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs for video in my Optorite DD0203 drives.

Both formats play flawlessly in my Sony DVP-NS999ES.

Both formats play flawlessly in my Pioneer DVL-919.

Both formats play flawlessly in my Apex AD-1100W.

Both formats play flawlessly in my neighbor's Apex AD-1200.

Maybe the problem is not with the Optorite drive engineering itself. Maybe the problem is the individual Optorite drive simply failed. I own two of these drives and I have had no problems with either that was directly related to the drive.

You'd be a lot more personable around here if you'd just learn to use profanity WITH SOME CLASS!

The problem isn't with their "individual" burner either. Initially it COULD of been..but once they said they burned successful -RW as well as +RW disks....that theory was thrown out. +RW disks are extremely similar to +R AND IT WAS very clear it was the different dye/quality of the RW disk over the R disks they had. That's not surprising, considering RW disks are structured more stable on average due to the sheer abuse they take with their voluminous erases/recordings.

Their optowrite isn't going to just say...oh...i'll burn +RW but I won't burn +R....not to mention that their DVD ROM did in fact play their -R AND +R disks! It's very simple...I gave them the solution...they didn't wanna hear it. Another poster gave them a suggestion..they didn't wanna hear that.

Their standalone was the culprit....otherwise the -R AND +R disks wouldn't of played in their DVD ROM nor would the -RW AND +RW disks play in their standalone. They didn't return shit.

Oh, as far as the "classy cussing" goes...yea, I was thinking the same thing...but we need that emoticon with the "BULLSHIT BEING COOKED" in here....then we'd be talkin'.
