  1. I just bought a 50 pack of blank "generic" 2X DVD-Rs off eBay for $50.86 including tax-n-shipping. They were described as silver top/purple bottom. Here is the ebay item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2745561621&ed=1060408989&ssPageName...DME:B:EOT:US:3

I got them today. They weren't purple backed. They were more of a pink color. Instantly I was worried. My 3.5 year old Sony DVP-S530D is very picky about what's played in it. In fact, it wil NOT even play a CD-R/RW of Audio CDs or VCDs. I do know it likes the purple backed DVD-Rs. I burned a couple movies from this batch of DVD-Rs and the Sony gagged. If the movie would even start at all it was very slow accessing chapters etc. It eventually errors out with an error C:13 (if I remember right). I know the player is fine because it still plays the other movies on the purple backed disks. These new DVD-Rs play the burned movie perfectly on the computer. No hiccups are errors. But we, watch movies in the living room, not on the puter.

What should I do with these blanks? I don't need 50 of them for data backup. I'm worried of I try to resell them on eBay that I'll lose money due to eBay sellers fees etc. Especially if I use "buy it now". Any thoughts?

You seem to have not too many choices here.

If the Sony gradually became picky to the media, it may mean it's lens are covered with dust.

Try to: open the Sony player and blow the dust off the lens, be careful not to make it wet if using compressed air. I fixed a few this way already for my friends

  3. It didn't "gradually" become picky. It just always has been. It's kept in my entertainment center that's got a glass door in front and is "fairly"dust free. I just bought a 25 pack of Ritek blank DVD-R. That is what I got last time. They are more expensive, but I know they work in my player. My dilemma is how to unload these generica "pink backed" DVD-Rs for at or close to the price I paid for them. About a buck a piece. They probably play fine in newer players, since they play flawlessly on my Mac. Anyone here want to buy them? I'll even ship them for free.

  4. Go to compUSA if you have one near you, or order online from them. Their compUSA 1x certified brand works great at 2x on my Sony DVDRW drive...

  5. It's not the burning that's the problem. It's the compatibilty with my sony PLAYER. I have a couple people interested in the those blanks. I ordered some Ritek blanks that I know for a fact play fine in my Sony. They'll be here on Monday.
