What causes the whites to be way too bright with the E50

I am hoping someone may be able to tell me what causes this problem: I have the Panasonic DMR E-50 and, I have been recording black and white movies from VHS toDVD-R. What happens is,when there is anything white in the scenes, be it clothes or an object, or, when its an outdoor scene and the sun is on a person, the white gets very white, a bright white where it makes it look almost like a negative. So, if someone is wearing a white dress, the white gets too white and looks almost like a negative or, if theres light on a face, this too makes it so you cannot see their face.

I have not touched any of the settings, its as it was when it left the factory. I have had this recorder for 2 months now.

IS there any way to make the recorder record so the image looks just as it does from the original VHS,so that when there is white in the scenes, it will look normal and not the very bright white?

I have the E50 and don't see what you're getting, however I do use the Sima CopyMaster box between my VHS player and the E50. Also on the Sima I can switch it to do only B&W.

Are you sure its not your tv? Some cannot handle white screens.

You panasonic might have a record setting, change it from AUTO to FIXED

This problem I am having with the recorder is frustrating. You see, when I am recording the VHS black and white movies to DVD-R, if there is ANY white in the scenes, or, if the people are inside and theres lights on ,this bright white is there where its too bright and its like a washed out scene. The TV I have is perfect, as there is no problem when I watch the VHS black and white movies with the VCR.

So, for some strange reason,the Panasonic recorder takes the image and, when theres white in the picture, it makes this white bright and, look close to being a negative image.

I am starting to wonder if this is a problem that cannot be fixed, that its there because these recorders are still new and are not yet perfected?

I have hoped that there were others who also had this same problem with black and white movies they were recording to DVD-R and when theres white,thewhite gets very bright and,you at times cannot see the face of the person or persons in the scenes. When no whites or strong light is in the scenes, the picture is then fine and normal looking.

I have looked at the instruction book and cannot find anything in it that would help to stop this problem.
