What is the best procedure to follow and software to use to convert Divx/Xvid movies with MPEG Layer-3 audio to DVD. I have been doing the following but am experiencing audio synchronization problems:

According to instructions on this website I have been performing the following steps to convert Divx v3 MPEG4. Divx v5, & Xvid MPEG4 video all coupled with MPEG Layer-3 audio to DVD for viewing on my home surround system:

Using Virtualdub, I extract the audio to a Wav file. Using TMPGEnc, I select CBR MPEG-1 Layer II audio (MP2) format, then select the source file; for video-movie.avi; for audio-movie.wav that I had created from Virtualdub. I then complete the process and encode the movie to the MPEG format. I then use Ulead Movie Factory to create the DVD. I have had success following this procedure only once. The video and audio was in sync, but the movie played with Dolby-Pro-Logic sound.

All other attempts using this conversion process has resulted in audio sync problems where the sound lagged behind the video. The time delay was constant throughout each movie.

Following instructions on how to correct audio sychronization problems, I ran into further problems with Virutaldub or Sonic Forge not allowing me to open an MPEG file so I could demultiplex the video and audio and fix the problem.

WHAT IS THE BEST PROCEDURE AND SOFTWARE TO USE FOR THIS CONVERSION PROCESS? HOW CAN I CONVERT THE MOVIE AND LISTEN TO IT ON DVD WITH DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 SOUND.
