  3. yes you can do it. There a program called Remote sellector. http://www.remoteselector.com/ that can do the job I use a mpeg 2 decoder and I can turn off macrovision. There might be other software that can turn off macrovision with PowerDVD just go to tool's and take a look. Also you might want to look in to VCD's and SVCD and skip DVD to VHS. InterVideo DVDCopy is nice for making VCD and SVCD also DVD2SVCD and Flask but slow and TMPG

ok that program Remote selector, i have downloaded the trial version. so how would i go about using that to record dvd to vhs? how do i set up the leads from my computer to my vhs player? what does this remote program do? it doesnt seem very clear to me what it acutually does, on the website it mentions things like Control DVD player software by keyboard, joystick or remote control.

Display player info like title, chapter and time on LCD display and Closed Caption.

but it doesnt mention anything about recording dvd from computers to vhs tapes. could you explain a little about what i have to do, i would be very grateful if you could.

  5. I believe if you had this device then it would be easy to record directly to a VCR.

Besides a VCR and a DVD reader in your computer, you need a graphics card with TV out and the correct cable. The cable for computer TV out to TV is sold for under $10 at computer stores,
Just connect the output from the computer (both video from TV out and audio L/R from your sound card) to the SCART connector in your VCR, and select A/V input on the VCR. If your GFX card can't display on both monitor and TV at the same time, connect a TV to RF out on your VCR to see what you're doing.
Fire up your software DVD player, set it to full screen, start playing the DVD and hit record on your VCR. Couldn't be simpler. Beware of Macrovision protected DVDs tho...

  7. If you do have a problem with Macrovision (which is a copy protection method intended specifically to stop the sort of copying you're doing), you could rip the DVD with SmartRipper (or probably DVDDecrypter).

These rippers have an option to 'disable macrovision'. You could then play the movie straight from your hard drive, and Macrovision should be gone.

You'll know you have a problem with Macrovision if your VHS copy looks like a really bad analogue TV signal, with flickering/phasing colours etc..

Also, beware that TV-out from graphics cards tends not to be great quality. You might want to invest in TVTool - which apparently improves the quality in terms of expanding the picture out to the edges of the screen etc..

let us know how you get on.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

  8. Why don't you get a scart lead and put it between your vcd and dvd. That is what I do, works fine.

I was under the impression that luvbuzz didn't have access to a stand alone DVD, but if you do, then of course it's easier to use DVD to VCR. Again MacroVision may cause problems, but if you're lucky (like I was), there's some hack for your stand alone DVD that allows you to disable MacroVision.
