change region on DVD

I have recently found that my home DVD player only plays uk region DVD's this is stopping me from watching some DVD's on it. I've looked into flashing it but unfortunately its not possible and would have to be a change in the hardware which entails sending the unit off.

my question is, Is there any way of copying the DVD's and changing the region to one (UK) which is compatible with my Player.

I have all the Hardware required for copying DVD's (ony +- Writer etc).

1) Run it through DVD Decrypter in file mode
2) Use DVD2one or IC7
3) Burn your VIDEO_TS folder as a data disc
4) Enjoy

Sure, I think every rip tool will remove the region coding. Then just* burn the disc onto a blank and use that.



*I say "Just" - if you've only just found out about region coding and the problems it can give, you might want to do a forum search for keywords like PAL, NTSC, transcoding, re-encoding, DVDShrink, DVD2ONE, TMPgEnc...

I do know that DVD Shrink has an option to select any particular region, or even better, no region at all.

Short answer is yes. There are a lot of ways to do it (as mentioned above). If the disc is DVD5 you can make a 1:1 copy with DVD Decryper set the region to all 6 (some players have trouble with region 0 discs), and burn.

For DVD9 backups most software will allow you set the region. To be 100% safe you can:

1) Rip the entire DVD in file more
2) Open VIDEO_TS.IFO with IfoEdit
3) Click on 'make region free'
4) Burn or transcode as necessary

Thanks for all your replies, since the DVD player is a Sanyo DAV 821 it looks as though there are no hacks for it, so I'll try to give it a go re-copying the disk with dvd decrypter and changing the region here.
