  1. Trying to convert a XviD file into a DVD.

First thing I tried was converting with FFmpegX. The audio was out of sync. Noticed the original file's frame rate was 23.98, so converted again - this time selecting 'frame rate: NTSC FILM'.

The MPG file this created was great - in sync, video looked good. But when I loaded the VIDEO_TS in Apple DVD Player I had large blocks of green at the top of the screen.

So next I used 'Sizzle' to make a DVD with the MPG file, but this also producted green blocks.

I'm burning this to a DVD, to test on my other players, but suspect I'll still have the green blocks.

    Any suggestions?!?

  2. The DVD showed green blocks on my other players too, as suspected.

I tried using FFmpegX to convert the MPG to DVD again, and got the same problem.

Could someone please suggest a solution?

Im a little confused myself. can you clarify some things

    1. playing the XviD in VLC or Media player it looks good - ie no green blocks?
    2. the ffmpegx process produces a .mpeg and a VIDEO_TS folder?
but playing the .mpeg looks ok, but opening the VIDEO_TS folder in dvd player it does not?
    3. then, you took the .mpeg which looks good and made a dvd image with sizzle and still you have green blocks?

Just for kicks, use your .mpeg file with my SVCD/MPEG to dvd method and tell me if you get green blocks. Its in my HOMEPAGE link

If I recall correctly from my PC days, I got those green blocks (mostly at the bottom of the screen) when I converted to the MPEG resolution of 352x240. The green went away when using the resolution 720x480.

alternatively, you could double and triple check the resolution you are encoding at. This has almost everything to do with the green bars. Make sure it is the same as your source if possible, and if not, make sure that the "letterbox" option is an appropriate one for your project.

Yep. This is why we added th "no crop/faster" and "custom width" modes to dvd-vx+. some crops do not divide properly by 16. This is the root cause of the problem.

Check the size of your ouput; it should divide evenly by 16 in bothe dimensions.
