Help, Outlook/XP Pro/ User Profiles problem

Okay I pulled a no brainer and lost some emails that I need to recover, here is what happened.

After installing XP Pro (fresh) I logged on as Administrator, which is the only default option. I installed office 2000, setup my outlook, downloaded my emails, installed some other stuff, set up another user as computer administrator, and a couple of limited users. rebooted, Administrator was no longer and option for logging in, only the 3 users I created 1 being a admin user. logged on as the admin user i created and outlook had to be setup again but now the emails were already downloaded w/ the administrator login originally and I cant login as that user anymore to get them back. Where did the default Administrator user go? I didnt remove him, just gone. Next time I need to think b/4 i start just setting up stuff

Anybody got some ideas.

Nobody knows huh? Well I guess we just chalk up another mark against PC's then.

I did try to add a user call Administrator- it told me there was already a user with that name- then y the hell cant i see it

No its not there. Thats what I'm saying its gone from the profiles section and its not on the main login screen, but It wont allow me to add a user called administrator b/c that name already exists it says. Im not a novice computer user but this is ticking me off.

After setting up the comp. did you make it join a domain or anything like that?
Do you see the profile under doucuments and settings?
Did you rename the admin account?
Did you do a search for the pst files?
Did you do a search for the ost file?

If you do not see the admin profile under documents and settings and can not find the pst file, your hosed. Were you connecting to an Exchange server or to a pop3 server? Sounds like a pop3 server. The exchange server will still have all the emails, but the pop server will not (unless you specify to leave messages on the server)

yes it is a pop3 server & I do have outlook set to delete messages on server after getting them. I did a search on the whole HD for any pst files and couldnt find it. oh well, I quit

just try logging on using adm... and the password you assigned to it and voila :

what way is there to log in besides the main login screen? I realize that "a" admin account always exists but I need the admin that was there on first boot called Administrator.

Problem is, if the profile is missing from the system (in this case) then logging in as Administrator will rebuild it from the default user profile and the email will still be missing.

You could try removing all the log on accounts you created, you should then have no option but to log on as administrator.
