  1. I capture mpegs with my AIW card my first cap was successfully authored with dvd factory but since then captures which windows read as 3 Gb Ulead reads as 7-10 Gb. I've reinstalled but the problem persists. Is there a fix for this?
    Now I can't burn the files with ulead so I have to use Nero for output should I make video_ts files or an image file and what's the difference?

  2. 1. Make certain your project settings are correct (correct bitrates);

    2. Make certain your project folder isn't clogged with old projects;

    3. The Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 tech support FAQ makes reference to an updated estimate size zip file:

  3. I've downloaded and installed the patch and changed the working folder but I got the same file size. I fiddled around with the mpeg settings in the project and the file size dropped by about 25% but still 2 gig overestimation. Does UMF re-render the captured video and if so what settings should I use? I capture at vbr target 5000, max 7000, 720 x 480.

  4. 1. Your source files should have DVD compliant attributes;

    2. Your project settings should be adjusted to match.

    For example, I pulled some raw MPEGs from a Panasonic VDR-M30 camcorder that was set to record at Xtra (highest) quality.

    The attributes of the captured MPEG-2 are as follows:

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 704 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order B
    (DVD-NTSC), 4 : 3
    Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8800 kbps)
    Audio data rate: 256 kbps
    MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

    When I set the project settings in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 to be IDENTICAL, then no re-rendering occurs.

    The DO NOT CONVERT COMPLIANT FILES box is also CHECKED.

  5. My mpeg files were not compliant with ulead. I changed my settings to 352x480 vbr 3mb/s and the file was accepted without any problems. What's the highest bitrate with this resolution for dvd compliance?

  6. Any bitrate for any resolution, but 9800 would be total overkill for half D1.
    One hint (or You allready got it ) - MF compliance can be easily tested by adding file to project, if estimated size differs significantly from file size, file is not compliant. In my case mostly audio has been requiring recompression.
    Also bit-rate (and even frame size) setings in MF have not to be identical - they just shouldn't be lower, so it is possible to have only one project template for all needs.
