Same thing happened to me. We bought the first DVD not too soon after it was released, then my cousin came to work with the special edition about a month later.

I'm hoping that the first release will have a special edition cut. If not, I'm going to be patient, this time.

I also ended up having the standard edition, simply because I could not wait to own the DVD. Is the Special Edition more or less the same price as the standard? I purchased the standard at $18.99 at WalMart.

If yes, then there is even greater reason to be pissed off.

  4. From what I have heard they are going to be doing the same (standard, then extended) as they did with the first film.

Did you ever read the books? I read them a long time ago and have them in my bookstand and when I found out they were making these movies I was overjoyed. They did change some things from the book, but overall they did an excellent job, I feel that whoever did the casting did the best, b/c they picked great people for each part. Anyway, did you ever read the books?

I was suppose to read two of them in high school, but didn't. It looked stupid to me, and the back of the books gave me the idea that I'd rather sleep than read them. It's not my style of book or movie. My brother saw it and went on about it, but I still think that Peter Jackson's best work is DeadAlive a.k.a. Braindead.

I tried reading the books, but didn't get into them. My wife, however, is an immense fan.

so it was funny - I went and saw the Two Towers and thought it was pretty good. She sat beside me raving about all the stuff that was "wrong", ie not following the book.

but it's great - she fills in all the blanks and background for me on the Tolkien movies, and I fill in all the blanks and background for her on the comic book movies!

But we'll be waiting for the 4-disc set, since it comes out a week before my wife's birthday... so she'll spend 3 or 4 weeks staying up late, watching every scrap, every documentary and every commentary track....
