After running this progy a few times, it said Microsoft error and asked you to send information to DVDx. You cannot totally uninstall the progy and if you try, usually ends up with deleting the windows O.S. and programme files and re-installing windows.

Its quite time consuming and annoying that you have to repeat again and again - reinstall windows, DVDx and the rest, run DVDx a few times, DVDx reported error with Windows, delete Windows .....

Anyone has same problem with DVDx?

hmmm....never had to resort to re-installing my OS.

If you are using XP the error message is asking to send info about the crash to Microsoft to see if there is a known problem. You don't have to send the info if you don't want to.

As for uninstalling the software, if you used the installer, the program should appear in the add/remove programs list, otherwise just delete the folder it is in.

How come 1st few movies without any decoding and encoding VOB problems after fresh installation of OS and only after a few movies, it suddenly get stucked in the middle of a movie? After the encoding problem, it started to have decoding problems.

If its a MS issue, it should have problems at the very 1st movie.

I don't understand this is a dedicated computer for capturing Hi8 tapes, Ripping DVDs that I owned to make SVCDs with DVDx and VCDEasy for the kids. I only use 3 progies on this computer!

It could be any number of things.....is it getting stuck on the same movie each time? Are you encoding direct from the DVD or are you ripping to HDD first? Does your DVD drive play movies without any problems? Is your HDD running fine? (is it new? is it faulty?) Are you running the latest drivers for your system? Are you running the latest version of DVDx? Have you tried running a different version of DVDx (2.0 or 2.1)

DVDx may be crashing but it might not be the problem. With a fresh install of XP you shouldn't be getting these crashes after a couple of rips. Try ripping to your hdd first with Smartripper or DVD Decrypter and running DVDx on that.

    1. It got stuck not just with one movie. Each time got stuck, I no longer can use DVDx to load the input VOB file. I have already re-install OS 4 times and each time ending with deleting OS after stuck. I ripped the movie with Smart Ripper 1st to HDD and then DVDx to encode to SVCD and then use VCDEasy to author and burn it.

    2. Hard disks are new.

    3. Latest driver of what? Pls elaborate.

    4. DVDx version 2.2.

    5. Try ripping to your hdd first with Smartripper or DVD Decrypter and running DVDx on that. - I was doing them from the very first DVD.

Motherboard, graphics, any other hardware that needs drivers. Also apply any windows service packs (if you are not already).

Sometimes a faulty piece of hardware (or faulty drivers) can cause problems for other software....if you are getting application errors it is usually because the software is trying to access some chunk of memory or trying to use some function and cannot find it. Just because the hardware is new doesn't mean its not faulty. Have you tried using another PC?

  7. @SamOntario,
I've been using DVDx since ver.1.8 and on WinMe and I've never had any problems except the audio going out of synch. You might try tweaking the settings in DVDx(iDCT,Calculation,Resize, etc.) until it works properly on your system.
Another alternative is rip and demux using DVDDecrypter and then TMPGEnc to convert.

    1. The MB is new with XP Pro SP1 service Pack. I don't think this is an issue if the 1st DVDx is OK.

    2. Sometimes a faulty piece of hardware (or faulty drivers) can cause problems for other software.. Why the 1st DVD has no problem? I don't think hardware is an issue.

    3. Have you tried using another PC? Yes, I tried 1st on my Windows 98 SE with older MB, slower CPU (AMD Athlon 900) AGP 1x Card, new HDD, same problem, i.e. a few DVDx later, it became problematic, resulting in deleting windows and re-installing windows 98 and then I switched to the newer PC with XP pro dedicated to handle all video stuff.

I had used DVD Decrypter and I am unable to get TMPGEnc to work for me. TMPGEnc needs AVI and mpa files and new version of DVD2AVI will create .d2V and .AC3 files. Both files cannot be opened with TMPGEnc. I have installed everything in one directory and set the "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader" to priority 3 under the VFAPI tab! Still will not open these 2 files. It said does not support these files. Its stupid that TMPGEnc will not open VOB files directly.

  10. You can't import a VOB with 3 audio languages and 3 subtitles you need to demux the video and ONE audio language.Multiplex the M2V and AC3 files:TMPGEnc>File>MPEG Tools>Simple Multiplex. The finished file will have an MPG header and extension then you can convert it to VCD,SVCD or DVD.
