  1. What do you do to keep your PC safe from Virus spyware and hackers?

Well I got the worst virus I have ever had really do not know how I got it but I think I turn of my virus software to have another program run better. When i went to reboot I had the virus in the boot up.

Had windows 2000 as my OS and my hard drive was set to master not duel master. Some reason Windows 2000 install fine 18 months ago. Now I could not even install windows 95 LOl nothing would go in.

I tried to install windows Xp after 2000 would not go in. It installed and crash every 10 to 15 minutes. Took the hard drive out to format it on another PC as a slave. Also my 2000 and XP CD could not even format the drive.

After taken a look at my hard drive manual I found out the set had to be for duel master also upgrade my bois.

Also I have seen this problem before you some can only have one hard drive ona IDE cable when install windows or any OS I would think.

After I got windows back up I said never again will my host OS ever go on the net ever again. Oh ok I lied I went to Microsoft website for updates LOL.

Now I use Virual PC 2004. After you install Virual PC 2004 you need to install Service pack 1. Then after you install any OS you want you have to do another update click on "action" install updates.

After I did this the fake guest OS is running so go no lag just fine for the net and other things.

So my real OS will never have Spyware or another Virus in it ever again.

I use absolutely nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
If I pick up an accidental virus, or 20... it takes me 7 minutes to clean out my system with nothing lost.

    I have 2 physical hardrives.
    Primary = C:\ = 4 GB = Windows, all software
Secondary = D:\ = 10 GB = My Documents, movies, email, anything I want to keep.

I did a fresh install of all my programs a while back. Defragged my system, set all my settings for each individual program the way I like it, and stayed off the net.

Made a clone image of my C: drive using Norton Ghost 2002 and burned it to cd. Then I surfed like crazy.

Every time my computer gets totally messed up, I just load the clone and it formats my disk and restores the image along with boot sectors and everything. It takes 7 minutes to restore it like the day I made the clone. I don't even need to defrag. No messing around with drivers and patches for me.

I keep all my documents which accumulate more frequently on my D: drive. I burn that occasionally "just in case". I keep all my sensitive material on cd and not on comp.

When I wish to install a new program, I'll test it first and if I decide to keep it, I do a fresh restore, install the program and then make a new clone on cd. (Sometimes I'll just wait and do several at once.)

The only drawback of this method is that I have to go in and copy my internet links folder before I restore, then merge it back afterwards.

Average time between restores: 5 months
Average time between thanking God I took the time to do this: Everyday

Hmm what do I do to keep my PC safe from virus software?

Simple--keeping my PC disconnected from the internet. At least for my AV PC that I use to do my video work, I dont use the internet at all on it, and I have no ethernet cables connected to it so I know for sure my system is safe. Only time I use the internet with it is when I need to download necessary updates for some of the software I have. Otherwise the internet doesnt exist on that PC. I do my surfing on my laptop, and use Mozilla as my browser.

And like another poster mentioned, common sense also can help .
