Dvd player freezing, skipping.

I bought a Dansai 955 player and had to return it to Tescos as after about 2 months it started to freeze and skip even on original disks. Now a Technika 1020 I got as a replacement is starting to do the same thing, it started to skip and freeze on a backup disk that previously played okay.
The disks play okay on my dansai 1010 in the living room.
The player is in my daughters bedroom and used 1-3 times per week, it sits on top of a vcr beside a portable tv.
Is it dust etc getting into the player?
What about a lens cleaner?
Should I site the player somewhere else?
Is it just the player is crap?

Me too. I get it on a Maxim box I bought at Safeway.

That'll teach us to buy hardware at a supermarket.

I had that same problem with a new Sony SLV-D300P. I figured out that the player could not play all the media types they claimed. Sometimes it would play for 10min with out freezing or skipping and sometimes it would do it right a way. All the discs worked fine in my other DVD player. I returned it and bought a multi format Zenith player for cheaper which has been kick-as$.
