  1. This is probably a bad question, but an extremely important one to me. I recently purchased a DVD +R burner. Since then, I have been reading this fantastic site. I now understand the format wars and so much more about the dvd burning world than I did before (thanks for that).

Anyway, the question that arose in my mind is, if a format other than DVD +RW wins the format war and people stop wanting DVD +Rs, will I be able to convert my DVD +R collection to that dvd format with minimum difficulty? For example, if I had a burner for both the DVD +R and DVD R format, could I easily do a disc-to-disc copy from DVD +R to DVD R?

I'm pretty sure that you could do a disc to disc copy. If not that, I'm guessing that I could use a program like DVD Shrink to backup up the DVD +R on my hard drive then use a burning program to burn it to the DVD R format.

This is extremely important to me. Thanks for any replies. Thanks again for this wonderful site and I hope to contribute in the future.

  2. You could do a disk to disk copy easily. I have taken DVD-RW I have made and burnt them to DVD+RW using only one burner and Nero. Granted I have the Sony DRU500 drive but that hardly matters. Nero just takes an image of the DVD and then writes it out to the other drive which could be the same or another drive

As long as your DVD Player plays the disc who cares if one wins over the other. There will be and should be no reason to convert your old stuff. If another format wins just wait and pick up a burner of that type and move forward from there. If +R wins tomarrow there is no reason to chunk all my -R burns cause they will still continue to play on DVD players.
