  1. I've just converted a SVCD to a MPEG-1 VCD file and burned the MPEG-1 onto a CD-R as a VCD.

The MPEG-1 .mpg file plays fine on my home PC, and the VCD I've created plays fine on my DVD Player.

However, I can normally use Windows Media Player on the PC to open the .DAT file on the VCD, but on these 2 discs it's not working. The drive just keeps spinning and the file never loads. If I try to copy the AVSEQ01.DAT from the VCD to the Hard Disk I get an 'Invalid MS-DOS Function' error.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Here's what I did to convert the SVCD:

    1. Converted SVCD .DAT file to MPEG-2 .mpg file with VCDEasy.
    2. Converted MPEG-2 .mpg file to MPEG-1 .mpg file using TMPGEnc.
    3. Burned MPEG-1 .mpg file to VCD using Nero.

    Thanks,

    NiVZ.

  2. Think I can answer my own question. I burned the VCD at home on my Windows XP PC with Nero and I think I checked the Joilet button.

The PC that I'm tring to open the .DAT in WMP with is Windows 2000 and I've seen a few articles that suggest Windows 2000 doesn't like the Joilet button being checked when burning VCD's.

I'll try re-burning tonight with the Joilet button unchecked to see if this fixes it. I'll post the results tomorrow.

  3. Okay, I re-burned the MPEG-1 .mpg file as a VCD using Nero, this time with the JOILET un-checked and the disc now works on Windows 2000 as well as on my Windows XP PC and my standalone DVD player.
